Us Weekly speculates Shonda Rhimes may have made a mistake bringing McDreamy back to Meredith in Grey’s Anatomy for Season 13 Episode 8 as fans of the series didn’t react too well to the flashbacks via social media.

Meredith Had A McDreamy Flashback

When the identity of the trauma patient in Season 13 Episode 8 was revealed while Meredith and her team were operating, she flashed back to how terrible she felt when her husband Derek died. When she learned the patient had his wife and two children in the waiting room, Meredith wanted to make sure the family were kept up-to-date on how their father and husband were doing. This was especially true when things started to take a turn for the worst on the operating table.

Meredith flashed back to the moment she had to tell her children that Derek Shepherd – their father – had passed away in the car accident.

“I can’t fix him because no one can fix him because he’s dead.”

Grey’s Anatomy fans who watched Season 13 Episode 8 would agree that the tears in Meredith’s eyes as she had these memories of Derek dying looked and felt so real that you just wanted to reach out and give her a hug.

Meredith ended up having to make a quick and rash decision during Season 13 Episode 8. Fortunately, the decision ended up saving the man’s life. After a long, hard, and stressful surgery, Meredith was cleaning herself up when she had a hallucination and saw her dead husband – McDreamy – standing in the operating room wearing his scrubs.

This time, the hallucination of McDreamy didn’t say anything. He just stood there as Meredith looked at him with her jaw dropped. While the moment was fleeting and touching, it left a lot of fans with broken hearts and empty tissue boxes.

Edwards Hallucinated Too

Meredith wasn’t the only person dealing with flashbacks and hallucinations during Season 13 Episode 8. Edwards discovered that none of the methods she had tried were working to fix her patient because he had a rare disease. When Edwards was a child, she suffered from sickle-cell anemia. A younger version of herself appeared in the room with her and encouraged her to speak up and tell the other doctors. Her younger self told her to “be louder” until they listened to her. Edwards then decided to listen to her hallucination and speak up.
