Miley Cyrus Launches #HopefulHippies Campaign After Trump Wins, Helps Connect Others With Local Ways To Help In Their Communities

Miley Cyrus is hoping to help Americans move on from despair to hope after the election of Donald Trump as president and is now pledging to focus on ways to make a positive difference with her new #HopefulHippies campaign.

Yahoo reports that the 23-year-old “Wrecking Ball” singer announced the new campaign in a video on Instagram Friday, after posting a tearful video earlier in the week.

“OK, so no more crying from me,” Cyrus said in the video.

“I am accepting and hopeful, inspired and smiling. So as a reaction to this shocking election, Happy Hippie and I are launching our newest campaign, #HopefulHippies, and to do this, I’d like to start with the first pledge and say myself and Happy Hippie are putting education for young people at the very top of our list of priorities in honor, of course, [of] Hillary Clinton.”

“I am so excited to see what we can do together, because we have made such an impact on the LGBTQ community, fighting homelessness and injustice for everyone,” Miley continued in the video.

“And I love you all so much. Peace is what we need. We do need to be stronger together. Thank you, thank you for making a difference.”

Miley pledged to start by funding classroom projects and schools through DonorsChoose, a nonprofit organization that allows individuals to donate directly to public school classroom projects that appeal to them. She also asked others to make their own pledges on her website, HappyHippies.org.

At Cyrus’s website, the #HopefulHippies campaign offers suggestions for how to help for a number of issues that people may care about: education, LGBTQ rights, women’s rights, social justice, homeless youth, mental health, environment, and animal welfare.

For each issue, there is a suggestion for how to help and a link to get connected in local communities. For example, those concerned with mental health can pledge to help suicidal youth by volunteering at the crisis text line, and a link is provided to get volunteers started. Other links are provided to connect visitors to DonorsChoose, the Humane Society, Planned Parenthood, local LGBTQ centers, local homeless service providers, serve.org for social justice work and volunteer.gov for environmental volunteer opportunities.

Already, fans are joining in with Miley on the campaign and posting their own pledges for ways they’ll help in their communities.

The Happy Hippie Foundation is a nonprofit organization founded by Miley Cyrus in 2015. According to the website, the Happy Hippie Foundation’s programs help youth achieve “positive outcomes in life” through program areas that include prevention, crisis response to help meet basic immediate needs, support services to build long-term well-being, and public education “to engage young people in global systemic change through fundraising and awareness campaigns.”

“Our mission is to rally young people to fight injustice facing homeless youth, LGBTQ youth and other vulnerable populations.”

In addition to providing information on how to help others, the Happy Hippie website connects visitors to organizations that can help them in times of crisis such as the Trevor Project, a crisis intervention and suicide prevention group for LGBTQ youth, and a crisis textline, among many others.

Miley Cyrus was one of many celebrities, including Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, and Jay Z, who was supporting Hillary Clinton for president. Like some other celebrities with strong feelings against Donald Trump, she had pledged to leave the country if Trump was elected. However, after the election, Miley posted on her social media pages that she was dedicating herself to helping the country instead.

Miley said that she would be accepting of Donald Trump as the president-elect and his promise to make America great, and called on fellow Americans to break down dividing walls and act with more love and compassion.
