Trump’s Inauguration: ‘Million Women March’ Being Organized To Descend On D.C. To Protest His Misogyny [Video]

American women who are unhappy with the new president elect and his words about and plans for females in this country are in the midst of organizing a “Million Women March” to descend on Washington D.C. the day after Trump’s inauguration in January. Organizers of the event, and the tens of thousands of women who have already pledged to show up, are both worried and angry and looking for a way to express their disgust with Donald Trump’s past statements about women as well as his announced plans that could potentially change women’s rights as part of his presidential platform.

As the Huffington Post reports, the Million Women March after Trump’s inauguration is already generating huge support on Facebook, where the anti-Trump protest originated and is being organized. Scheduled for January 21 at the Lincoln Memorial, the event is slated to run from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. EST, and everyone who supports women’s rights is invited to attend. (Note: the official Facebook page for the Million Women March has changed its name to “Women’s March on Washington,” however most media outlets are still referring to it as the Million Women March.)

The group is, according to its Facebook page, issuing an open invitation to virtually anyone interested in supporting their inclusive post-Trump Inauguration Million Women March, adding that they want to make the event as huge and impactful as possible.

The Million Women March/Women’s March on Washington’s Facebook page also includes links to individual state’s pages, adding that much of the organization for the event to take place the day after the Trump Inauguration, is being done at the state level. Roughly 35,000 people have indicated that they will attend the Inauguration event on its primary Facebook page alone, and in just a day.

According to Bob Bland, the original organizer of the Million Women March, the primary reason for the march is to give Americans (and really anyone) with a beef against Donald Trump and his treatment of, words about, and proposed policies pertaining to women an avenue to show their support for women in the face of a Trump presidency. One of the most grievous complaints that Bland reportedly has against Trump is related to the disgusting Access Hollywood open mic video that was released late in Trump’s campaign.

In the video, Donald Trump can be heard saying vile, sexist things about women in a conversation with Billy Bush, whom lost his job after the tape went public. Most egregious? Trump is heard advocating and even admitting to what many have called sexual assault, stating that he kisses beautiful women without their permission and can even “grab them by the p***y” if he chooses. All because he’s a rich star.

While the the so-called Billy Bush tape was one of the most publicly embarrassing scandals to plague the Trump campaign, as well as the primary motivation for the organization of the Million Women March, it was far from the only time that Donald Trump said derogatory things about women during and leading up to his presidential campaign. In the recent months, and even years, Trump has forged quite a record of insulting women, including reporters and those he finds unattractive (as well as those he finds very attractive). In addition, during his campaign several women came forward to accuse Trump of inappropriate sexual contact.

For Trump’s part, he has always denied ever sexually assaulting any woman, and he has repeatedly called his Billy Bush conversation nothing more than “locker room talk.”

As the Million Women March/Women’s March on Washington event indicates, not everyone believes that Trump was engaging in mere locker room talk. Or that he’s being truthful about his interactions with all of his assault accusers. As such, the Million Women March appears to be a go the day after the Trump inauguration.

Trump’s offensive comments about and to women during his campaign (and those unearthed during his campaign) aren’t the only reason that the Million Women March/Women’s March on Washington has been organized to take place the day after the Trump inauguration, reports the New York Times. In addition to being angry about the way Trump speaks about and to women, organizers (and participants) in the Million Women March are furious about some of Trump’s plans for women’s rights in the U.S. after he becomes POTUS.

During his White House bid, Trump proclaimed that abortion should be almost entirely banned, that he intends to replace deceased Supreme Court Justice Scalia with a new, anti-choice Justice, and that he would like to see Roe v. Wade overturned. At one point, Trump really raised infuriated eyebrows when he stated that women who have abortions should be subject to criminal penalties.

After facing a serious level of public backlash for his comments, Trump walked back from that statement and flip-flopped his stance, stating that medical professionals who perform abortions should be criminally punished instead.

While the plans for the Million Women March/Women’s March on Washington only just got their start two days after Trump’s unexpected Election Day victory, they have already exploded into something much larger than ecstatic organizers ever anticipated.

“A lot of women got up the second day with the same idea…We need to be working together in a coherent, supportive way over the next four years, to activate more women into leadership positions, to be more politically active. We cannot allow ourselves to give up, put our heads down and not hold this administration accountable for any violation of human rights or women’s rights.”

Organizers of the post-Trump Inauguration Million Women March/Women’s March on Washington reportedly chose the Lincoln Memorial as their meeting place because it was the site of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s iconic “I Have a Dream” address.
