‘Teen Wolf:’ New Photos From Show’s Final Season Give Possible Proof To Dylan O’Brien Health Rumors

A set of cast photos from the upcoming sixth and final season of MTV’s Teen Wolf have involuntarily given credence to ongoing rumors regarding the current health status of actor Dylan O’Brien.

Out of the seven images, which were shared by Entertainment Tonight, meant to tease Teen Wolf’s final season, the 25-year-old, who portrays the wisecracking Stiles Stilinski, only appears in a group shot between cast mates Tyler Posey (Scott McCall) and Shelley Hennig (Malia Tate). Additionally, it appears that O’Brien’s likeness was superimposed into the picture at some point after it was taken, as noted by several fans through social media.

The remaining snaps are one-sheets — or solo shots — of the other stars appearing in the 20 episodes that make up the final season of Teen Wolf: Posey, Hennig, Holland Roden (Lydia Martin), Dylan Sprayberry (Liam Dunbar), Khylin Rhambo (Mason Hewitt), and Cody Christian (Theo Raekin) all get their own. An O’Brien portrait, however, is glaringly omitted from the set of independent pictures.

Dylan’s apparent absence from the promotional photos is the latest chapter in continued speculation surrounding the injury he sustained earlier this year while filming the third increment of 2014’s sci-fi action-adventure The Maze Runner. As noted by Vulture back in March, a stunt gone wrong on the set of The Death Cure led to O’Brien being run over by a car and suffering serious injuries.

Filming of both The Death Cure and Teen Wolf’s final season were postponed to allow the actor time to heal, but detailed info of what truly occurred had fans wondering if the incident was a lot more serious than most let on.

As reported by the Inquisitr, a scene from The Death Cure called for Thomas, O’Brien’s character, to leap from the back of a makeshift train car. Unfortunately, something went wrong during the jump, and O’Brien was said to have either fell or been jerked (by a wire) underneath a car that had a camera attached to it in order to simulate the motion of the train. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was said to have undergone emergency facial surgery to repair a fractured cheekbone and a broken orbital socket.

In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter for Deepwater Horizon, another action-adventure film that O’Brien participated in, filmmaker Lorenzo di Bonaventura revealed that the young star almost didn’t survive the frightening accident.

“He’s all better [now],” di Bonaventura expressed, “[but], it was more than disconcerting. I never saw him in his worst form — it was described to me. It was really scary. He came close to dying, I’m pretty sure. It was enough to shake your core.”

After months of silence from his end, O’Brien posted a short but sweet message via Twitter in early October that not only let fans know that he was okay, but that he was also able to enjoy one of his favorite pastimes: rooting for the New York Mets.

(For those who are confused, “LGM” stands for “let go, Mets.”)

As for work on Teen Wolf’s final season, MTV provided Entertainment Weekly with a batch of on-set photos back in July, one of which showed O’Brien filming scenes for the new season.

In the final run of episodes, it is said that audiences will witness the mostly-supernatural group of Beacon Hills teens preparing to face one of the biggest rites of passage in their lives — high school graduation — while preparing to battle a new evil and unknowingly losing the memory and existence of one of their own: Stiles.

Teen Wolf’s final season begins next Tuesday, November 15, at 9 p.m./8 c. on MTV. Following the postponement, The Maze Runner: The Death Cure is now set for release in theaters on January 12, 2018.
