Derek Hough Might Leave ‘DWTS’ For Good: Dancer Admits To Other Obligations

Derek Hough came back as one of the previous champions of the show, after having won the Mirrorball trophy several times over the past few years. Even though Hough couldn’t dance himself to a victory this time around, it sounds as if he has enjoyed this season with Marilu Henner and would do it all over again. But will he? It sounds like Hough isn’t entirely sure about his future with the show, as he could be signing contracts to dance for other productions. As it stands right now, Derek doesn’t know whether he will return to the show for season 24.

According to a new Wetpaint Entertainment report, Derek Hough revealed that he isn’t exactly sure about returning to the show. Of course, there are several weeks left of this current season, and before it wraps up, production might not be thinking about who to bring back next season. Of course, Mark Ballas took this season off to do Broadway, and Derek has previously removed himself to do other things, including last season, but it sounds as if he could be thinking about leaving for good.

“I don’t know if I’ll be back next season,” Derek wrote in his TV Guide blog, as reported by Wetpaint Entertainment, adding, “It’s too early to say.”

Of course, Hough, like many others of the stars of the show, gets offers from various other productions, including Broadway and road shows. Apparently, Derek is one of the world’s busiest dancers, so it makes sense that he simply doesn’t know how the schedule will work for him next year. Not only does the family have a Christmas special airing on December 25, but he’s also waiting for an update on his Broadway role in Singin’ in the Rain,’ and he could be hoping for another Broadway role for 2017.

While Derek Hough hasn’t actually announced his exit from Dancing With The Stars, he does reveal that he will leave the door open if nothing else works out for him. He admits that he has kept his distance from the show a few times to work on other projects, but he always ended up coming back even though he had no plans of doing so. So, his fans should not dwell on the thought that he will never be back on Dancing With The Stars. Hough simply doesn’t know if the schedule will work out as he’s waiting for news on other work obligations.

“I didn’t think I was going to come back to the show a couple times now and ended up coming back,” Derek Hough admits in his blog, adding, “That show will always be my family.”

Of course, the show loved having Derek back this season, especially Ryan Lochte. When protestors rushed the stage earlier this season of Dancing With The Stars based on what happened in Rio, Derek Hough was the first to get out on the stage. He said that there was no room for this kind of behavior on the show, and he kicked out the protestors, plus many of the people wearing anti-Lochte shirts. Hough clearly showed how protective he is of his home with Dancing With The Stars.
