Lisa Vanderpump Teases Major ‘Vanderpump Rules’ Wedding Drama, Slams Cast Members For Fat-Shaming Bride-To-Be

Lisa Vanderpump says the wedding she officiated for Tom Schwartz and Katie Maloney did not go off without a hitch. In an interview with E! News, the Vanderpump Rules queen bee revealed that there was some major pre-wedding drama that forever changed the relationship between the longtime lovebirds.

“Something big went down, and I think it changed things,” Lisa told E! about Tom and Katie’s pre-wedding road bump. “So yeah. You won’t get to see that til the end, but you’re going to have a hell of a ride getting there, that’s for sure.”

Vanderpump went on to explain that “the journey toward the wedding was pretty much a roller coaster” that even had her even getting involved in the drama despite the fact that she usually stays away from her employees’ personal problems.

“I got involved more than I normally would, because it just seemed so complicated, the scenario,” Lisa teased. “Sometimes when they were together, it was quite sad in some ways. But it’s a journey, and I think people will be invested in what transpires this season, definitely. Ultimately, they got married, so we do know the ending.”

The Vanderpump Rules Season 5 trailer made it clear that there was some sort of trouble in paradise leading up to Tom and Katie’s big day. In an interview with People magazine, castmate Stassi Schroeder said longtime Vanderpump Rules fans know the couple has had “somewhat of an up-and-down relationship.”

Scheana Shay, whose own wedding played out in Season 3 of Vanderpump Rules, said her co-stars had some serious issues to deal with before they made that walk down the aisle.

“There were some unresolved issues in their relationship that you’ll see them work through,” she said.

Of course, longtime Vanderpump Rules fans know that it took Schwartz a really long time to propose to Maloney, so there were obviously some underlying issues. At one point, Lisa even questioned if Schwartz would ever be marriage material. But he clearly changed his tune because the wedding went down and Vanderpump even served as an elegant officiant for the couple.

In addition to the mysterious marital drama, Lisa Vanderpump addressed the horrific bullying and body shaming that took place on the Vanderpump Rules Season 5 premiere episode. As the cast gathered together for an OK! Magazine party, cast members James Kennedy and Lala Kent fat-shamed then bride-to-be Katie Maloney. Kennedy made fun of Katie for not working on her “summer body,” and he even went so far as to ask her if she was pregnant.

Tom Schwartz, who usually stays out of the drama, ultimately hurled a small candle at James to get him to leave the area of the bar where he and his fiancé were sitting at with the rest of the group.

Lisa Vanderpump told E! that she called Kennedy out for his inappropriate comments, and she revealed that he apologized and said he was going through his own personal issues at the time. Still, Lisa questioned what he was even thinking.

“How can he fat shame her when she’s like a size 6 or 4 and she’s a beautiful woman and he’s a skinny little runt?” Lisa said.

Vanderpump Rules star Katie Maloney told Bravo.com that James and Lala have regularly called her fat and that the “evil” duo have long alienated themselves from the rest of the group.

“Ever since my engagement party last year, [when] I continue to try to extend the olive branch and try to just be cool and cordial, I have just been done with it,” the Vanderpump Rules star said.
