Bella Thorne Faces Backlash For Coming Out As Bisexual
Bella Thorne is a bit of a wild child. As you can see on her social media outlets, she’s a bit of a free-spirited person. Bella loves to take sexy selfies and isn’t afraid to cut loose any chance she can get. Ever since Bella has come out as bisexual to her fans, she has been receiving her share of backlash.
The former Shake It Up star is not shy when it comes to admitting her same-sex crushes. Thorne recently admitted that Pretty Little Liars star Shay Mitchell “always looks like a goddess.” The 19-year-old responded to a fan tweet that read, “@shaymitch looks like a goddess right @bellathorne???”
Bella responded, “She always does,” along with a heart-eyed emoji, as reported via JustJaredJr.com.
The actress recently opened up about being bisexual shortly after her split from Gregg Sulkin. The rumors circulated after she shared Snapchat photos of herself kissing her best friend Bella Pendergast on the lips. That’s when a fan asked Thorne if she was bisexual, to which she replied with a resounding, “Yes.”

However, fans have since been confused about Thorne’s sexuality and love life. They assumed that she was dating her friend at the time, but it turns out that Pendergast dated Thorne’s little brother and she was already in a serious relationship with a guy. Sources previously told TMZ that Thorne and Pendergast are just good friends who like to make out every so often, even if they are both in relationships with other people.
She then admitted that she has a huge crush on pop singer Demi Lovato, as previously reported via the Latin Times.
“I didn’t even think about it,” Thorne spoke to Maxim about opening up about her sexuality on social media. “A fan on Twitter asked me, and I’m super open about it. So I just said, ‘Yeah!'”
According to the men’s publication, the actress sat down to talk about her upcoming moving, Shovel Buddies, but also mentioned her crush on the “Cool For the Summer” songstress.
“Demi Lovato. I must say…rawrrrr. She is a pretty toasty woman,” she said when asked who her same-sex crush is. “Miley Cyrus, too. She’s dope. But Demi is fire, just fire.”
Since then, Bella has quickly moved on with Teen Wolf star Tyler Posey. The two have been packing on the PDA and fans have slammed the fiery redhead and her hunk for displaying too much PDA on social media and for moving on so fast. Some have even accused Bella of acting “slutty” on social media. Overall, most Bella’s fans have been super supportive about her decision to come out on social media. That hasn’t stopped her from receiving nonstop criticism about her personal life, however.
Apparently, the Famous in Love star’s sexuality is also too much for studio execs. In that same interview with Maxim, she revealed that she’s been told that her image is too wild.
“It’s hard in this business for us,” she started. “It really is. I have already had people talk shit to me. And it comes from people in the industry, not even fans. I’ve had studios tell me my image is too ‘out there,’ hinting at it but not really saying it. People tell me all the time about my social media and my Snapchat, but I’m not going to change myself for this business, and I’m not going to change myself for anyone else.”
Despite the backlash over her sexuality, Thorne still has plenty of projects lined up. She’s set to headline in the new Freeform show, Famous In Love, in April 2017, along with Shovel Buddies, Boo! A Madea Halloween, and The Death and Life of John F. Donovan alongside Jessica Chastain and Kit Harrington, as reported via the Huffington Post.
