‘The Vampire Diaries’ Actor Ian Somerhalder To Leave US If Donald Trump Beats Hillary Clinton

Ian Somerhalder, who is best known for playing Damon Salvatore on the hit series, The Vampire Diaries, has said that he intends to move out of the U.S. if the Republican candidate, Donald Trump, wins the 2016 U.S. Presidential election. With his statement, Ian Somerhalder joins a growing number of Hollywood celebrities who are vehemently opposed to Trump becoming the next President of the United States.

The Vampire Diaries actor, who is also a vocal environmentalist, sees the November 8 election as history making, and he has been urging his Twitter followers to vote and stop Trump’s entry into the White House. On his Twitter feed, he called Trump the “most dangerous person,” as the Republican presidential candidate has often called the climate change a hoax. On multiple occasions, Trump has suggested that the global warming is a hoax created by the Chinese for their own benefit.

Somerhalder told Variety that this year’s U.S. Presidential election is the “most important election” in the human history, and he is “wildly passionate” about it. The actor also said that any person who calls climate disruption a hoax created by the Chinese is not the right person to become the President of the United States.

“Any person that potentially has the position of being President of the United States who thinks climate disruption is a hoax created by the Chinese doesn’t deserve to be in that seat. It’s just a simple fact.”

If Trump beats all odds and becomes the next President of the United States, Somerhalder plans to move out of the country with his wife, Nikki Reed.

“I think about the America I could potentially be raising my children in, and I don’t know. I don’t know if I would actually want to stay here. It’s extreme, but I love this country. I want nothing but the best for this country.”

Somerhalder will not be the only celeb leaving the country if the Republican candidate wins the U.S. Presidential race. Many Hollywood celebrities have vowed to move out of the U.S. if Trump wins the White House. On Thursday, singer-actress Cher said that she would leave the planet if Clinton loses the U.S. Presidential election to Trump.

In September, comedienne Amy Schumer said that she would be moving to Spain, or any other country, if Trump wins, adding that it would be beyond her comprehension if he won. The Dancing with the Stars contestant, Amber Rose, said in May that she is taking her son and moving if the Republican candidate becomes the U.S. President, although a destination was not decided.

The Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston has also said that he would “definitely” move, and it will not be a vacation trip. He plans to become an expatriate. Samuel L Jackson intends to pack his bags and fly to South Africa, while Lena Dunham plans to move to Vancouver if Trump gets the votes.

On November 9 morning, Somerhalder and other celebrities will probably find out whether they need to start packing their bags or open a bottle of Champagne to celebrate the beginning of a new era in American politics.

Ian Somerhalder, 37, is currently starring in the final season of The Vampire Diaries. The actor married Nikki Reed in Santa Monica, California on April 26, 2015. The couple has repeatedly voiced their desire to have children.
