‘Sons Of Anarchy’ Creator Kurt Sutter Teases Charlie Hunnam’s Jax Teller Cameo In Spinoff ‘Mayans MC’

Charlie Hunnam’s involvement in the new Sons of Anarchy spinoff has been making headlines ever since Kurt Sutter announced his plans to re-visit the biker drama. Hunnam has not confirmed his cameo in the new spinoff, Mayans MC, but Sutter recently teased that the actor will be back.

Will Hunnam reprise his role as Jax Teller in Mayans MC?

According to We Got This Covered, Sutter took to Instagram to tease another photo from the spinoff. The series creator shared a photo of the Mayans MC with the caption, “Nothing comes before familia.”

The post was yet another teaser from the creator, who has been drumming up excitement for the spinoff for months. Game N Guide reports that Sutter really created buzz with fans when he shared a picture of the leader of the Mayans, Marcus Alvarez (Emilio Rivera), with Jax (Hunnam).

“My favorite kind of family. Dysfunctional. #MayansMC #SOA,” Sutter wrote alongside the image.

Sutter’s social media activity opens the possibility of Hunnam making an appearance on the spinoff. Even if Mayans MC takes place after Jax’s death, Sutter could bring him back in a number of different ways. Whether it’s in the form of a flashback or a different storyline, fans can at least hope that Hunnam will be back in action in the near future.

At the same time, Sutter is also working on a prequel to the events in Sons of Anarchy. The prequel will focus on the origins of SAMCRO, which means Hunnam’s involvement would be very minimal.

There’s no telling, however, how long the prequel will last and if Sutter only has plans for one season. If the prequel stretches into multiple years, then there is a chance that the timeline will eventually catch up to Sons of Anarchy.

Bringing Hunnam back into the fold would be a smart move on Sutter’s part. After all, Movie News Guide reports that Hunnam was key to the success of Sons of Anarchy throughout the show’s seven-year run. Not only was Jax a main character on the show, but Hunnam attracted a large fan base that would like nothing more than to see him back on a Harley.

In the final season, Hunnam received a nomination for Best Actor in a Drama Series, and Sons of Anarchy remains of FX’s most popular shows to date. Given Hunnam’s large fan base, it would be a no-brainer to bring him back for at least one cameo in the spinoff.

Of course, Sutter is taking an entirely new approach to the biker world he created on Sons of Anarchy. In fact, the new spinoff isn’t going to focus on the members of SAMCRO. Instead, Sutter plans to explore the same world through an entirely different lens.

According to Parent Herald, Sutter hired Elgin James to work on Mayans MC, and the two are currently working hard to develop a storyline. The series is expected to be a dark family drama from the perspective of Latin American culture.

Indeed, Sutter previously revealed that Mayans MC will be a “dark, visceral” family drama that distances itself from Sons of Anarchy by exploring life “through a Latino lens.” Hence, his recent posts about family ties.

Sutter hired James to write the new show because he “didn’t think a white guy from Jersey should be writing about Latin culture and traditions.” Apparently, James “is that voice” to accurately portray Latin sub-culture in the biker world.

James is known for his work on Little Birds and has a personal history that lines up perfectly with Sutter’s style of storytelling.

Aside from focusing on the Mayans, little else is known about the show. Sutter has teased that some old faces will crop up on the series, but he has not confirmed that any SOA characters will cross over.

Until Sutter releases more information, fans can only hope that he writes in a part for Hunnam and other characters in the SOA universe. Even if Hunnam only makes a small cameo, many fans would likely tune in just for the chance of seeing Hunnam on a bike once again.

Unfortunately, FX has not released any news about a potential premiere date for Mayans MC. There’s no telling when the series will enter the production phase and it could be another year before it finally airs on the network.

In the meantime, fans can rest assured that Sutter is working hard on a script for the spinoff and will continue to drop hints on social media. With a script in the works, it won’t be long before Sutter starts casting and filming the new series.

Hunnam has not commented on his involvement in Mayans MC and whether or not he is willing to reprise his role as Jax Teller one last time.
