‘Vikings’ Season 4: Ragnar Has A Favorite Son, Big Deaths Coming In Part 2

Vikings Season 4 Episode 11 will air on November 30, and History’s hit show is going all out in part 2 of its biggest season.

After a massive time jump we see an ageing Ragnar return to Kattegat, a hated man and his sons are all grown up. In Vikings Season 4 Part 2, we can expect Bjorn to take a leadership role and there will not be too much jealously among his Viking brothers Ivar, Hvitserk, Ubbe, and Sigurd. However, Alexander Ludwig who plays Bjorn has stated that “everybody is trying to make their mark,” which suggests that there may be friendly competition between Ragnar’s sons to prove their worth.

A teaser for the return of the series shows us that Ragnar has an unlikely favorite – Ivar the Boneless. Ragnar’s crippled son that he left in the woods as a baby is an adult after the time jump in Episode 10. The teaser trailer for Vikings Season 4 shows fans that Ragnar sees the potential in his son to become a great leader. The official trailer briefly shows fans that Ivar the Boneless is a skilled warrior despite his disability.

According to IGN, Travis Fimmel spoke about his character’s relationship with Ivar and why Ragnar sees him as strong:

“Ragnar sees a mind in Ivar that nobody else sees and doesn’t treat him as a cripple — admits he’s a cripple, but he always believes that his mentality is the strongest thing,”

Ivar the Boneless is in constant pain due to his legs. The Viking has a fiery temper and he will be mentored by his father who will take on King Ecbert of Wessex to settle their unfinished business. Ragnar and his brother Rollo will not enter another battle; however, Rollo will make an appearance in this season.

In the Vikings Season 4 trailer, Bjorn is seen talking to his uncle Rollo and it seems like there will make an agreement to attack Wessex together and split the spoils of war. The Vikings will send a much larger army to Wessex, but we do not know what the more powerful and cunning King Ecbert has up his sleeves.

There will also be a domestic feud in Kattegat between Lagertha and Queen Aslaug. While Lagertha’s shield maiden skills gives her an advantage in a one-on-one battle, Aslaug is the current queen and seems to have powerful allies on her side. Lagertha has also had enough with men and will be in a same-sex relationship in Vikings Season 4 part 2.

Many fans of Vikings don’t expect the aging Ragnar to make it to Season 5. Therefore, Ragnar is likely going to be the big death in the 10 episodes of the returning series. Several new cast members are joining in Vikings Season 5 to fill the void.

It is also expected that Rollo will not be returning or he will play a smaller reoccurring role. While Ragnar and Lagertha are unlikely to get back into a romantic relationship, fans should expect some nice moments between the former lovers. However, Ragnar and Aslaug are unlikely to make amends anytime soon as her ambitions are set on getting rid of him.

Flocki is also coming back with some new ships. There is not much information on his relationship with Ragnar, but it was made clear in the first part of Season 4 that they still care for each other. Alexander Ludwig also told IGN that Flocki will willingly go to battle with Bjorn.

“He feels that Bjorn is the future and that Ragnar’s been away, and this is where he’s going next,” Skarsgard said.

“He’s about to embark on a new journey with Bjorn down to the Mediterranean; that’s what they’re aiming for. He’s still curious to explore the world and have some fun.”
