Jennifer Aniston Tired Of Being ‘Shamed’ For Brad Pitt Divorce And Being Childless

Jennifer Aniston has had enough with the media’s constant scrutiny over her personal life. The actress recently revealed that she’s sick of being “shamed” for both her divorce from Brad Pitt and for simply choosing not to have children.

The 47-year-old opened up about why she wrote that powerful essay about the judgment of women in Hollywood in an op-ed letter she wrote back in July. In her latest cover story with Marie Claire, Aniston said she was fed up with being “shamed,” as reported via People.

“My marital status has been shamed; my divorce status was shamed; my lack of a mate had been shamed; my nipples have been shamed. It’s like, ‘Why are we only looking at women through this particular lens of picking us apart? Why are we listening to it?’ I just thought: ‘I have worked too hard in this life and this career to be whittled down to a sad, childless human.'”

In a follow-up to her Huffington Post essay, For The Record, she addressed the tabloid media culture and the sexism that follows it. Aniston reveals how much the media makes people think that a women’s worth is based on their marital status and maternal status. The actress and producer graces the cover of the December 2016 issue in a sparkly black-and-white fringe dress and reflects back on how much she’s been the center of tabloid fodder and why she’s finally fed up with the stories.

“The way I am portrayed by the media is simply a reflection of how we see and portray women in general, measured against some warped standard of beauty,” Aniston wrote in her powerful essay for the Huffington Post. “The message that girls are not pretty unless they’re incredibly thin, that they’re not worthy of our attention unless they look like a supermodel or an actress on the cover of a magazine is something we’re all willingly buying into.”

“Why is the right person for me? All I know is that I feel completely seen, and adored, in no matter what state. There’s no part of me that I don’t feel comfortable showing, exposing. And it brings forth the best part of myself, because I care about him so much. And he’s such a good person. It hurts me to think of anything hurting him.”

As for her career, the Office Christmas Party star revealed that she’s not sure what she’s doing at this point. She’s kind of taking her time figuring out her next step professionally.

“This is a time when I’m not completely sure what I’m doing. I’m at this sort of crossroads trying to figure out what inspires me deep in my core. What used to make me tick is not necessarily making me tick anymore … The most challenging thing right now is trying to find what it is that makes my heart sing.”

Aniston also talks about how she picks her acting roles. Inside the new issue of Marie Claire, she poses in a series of sweater dresses, coats, and polarized sunglasses for the fashion publication.
