Paul Ryan Goes To Browns Practice, Gets Quarterbacks Mixed Up

Paul Ryan’s trip to the Browns practice was supposed to be a good photo op for the Republican vice president candidate but instead turned into an embarrassing moment when Ryan mixed up the team’s quarterbacks.

As NESN noted, Paul Ryan may know his stuff when it comes to economics, but he has some homework to do on the Browns roster. When he met with players at Wednesday’s practice, Ryan singled out rookie quarterback Brandon Weeden, but the only problem was he looked at backup Colt McCoy when he said it.

The Browns practice incident show it’s clear that Ryan hasn’t had much time to watch football games while he’s been on the campaign trail. Political pundits have called Paul Ryan‘s Browns practice mix-up a gaffe for the candidate who has been caught embellishing his marathon time in the past, but the Cleveland players thought it was fun.

Linebacker Scott Fujita tweeted:

“Today’s locker room laugh from practice was hearing how Paul Ryan looked Colt McCoy dead in the eye & said ‘great job at Oklahoma State’

Ryan was contrite when informed of his mistake, The Associated Press reported.

“You always had your helmet on,” Ryan told Weeden afterward.

Paul Ryan wasn’t the only visitor to Browns Practice. Former secretary of state Condoleezza Rice was also there, stopping for a picture with rookie running back Trent Richardson.

For those wondering why Paul Ryan would go to Browns practice, NESN has a simple explanation — the team’s new owner, Jimmy Haslam III, is the brother of Tennessee governor Bill Haslam, a big Romney supporter.
