Hillary Clinton Vote Trading App #NeverTrump Lets Voters Trade Votes To Swing States To Help Her Win, And It’s Legal [Video]

If you’re a Hillary Clinton supporter trapped in a red or blue state, there’s a new vote trading app designed to help you to trade your vote with a third-party voter in a swing state. The goal? To make every vote for Hillary Clinton as impactful as possible in the midst of this tight election. The app is called #NeverTrump, and despite sounding suspiciously fishy, it’s perfectly legal.

The Hillary Clinton-favoring vote trading app is designed to match Clinton (Democratic) voters in non-swing states such as California to third-party voters (read: voters favoring McMulling, Johnson or Stein) in swing states, reports NBC News. When parties are matched, voters agree to “swap” their votes (i.e., the Clinton voter will cast a ballot for Johnson in California while the third-party voter will cast a vote for Clinton in their swing state of residence).

The result? Two voters whose votes potentially have a much bigger impact on the results of the general election.

The legal app was designed by a group at Silicon Valley firm Trimian, led by diehard Clinton fan Amit Kumar. According to Kumar, an Indian immigrant, the inspiration behind the somewhat controversial app was America’s low voter turnout, especially when compared to his home nation.

According to the Hillary Clinton vote trading app’s creator, many American voters opt out of casting their ballot because they feel like their vote doesn’t matter, especially if they live in a non-swing state. The #NeverTrump app changes all that, and allows voters in traditionally red or blue states to cast their votes in swing states where they just might tip the balance in their candidate’s favor.

Likewise, third party voters in swing states using the Hillary Clinton vote trading app are able to vote for their candidate of choice in traditionally solid states in an effort to tip the electorate.

“The reason for the difference is not that people are less interested. It’s that they feel their votes don’t matter as much.”

One downside to using the Hillary Clinton vote trading app is that it depends solely on the honor system. There’s no way to force another voter to honor their promise to trade their vote. The vote trading app #NeverTrump does, however, offer potential Hillary Clinton vote traders the opportunity to screen their vote trading “partners” before agreeing to a vote trade. What’s more, voters who utilize the Hillary Clinton vote trading app to swap their vote with a third party voter even have the option of finding a vote trading partner in the swing state of their choice, if available.

In an election full of allegations of “rigging,” you might question how vote trading could possibly be a legal practice. However, it is and that legality has been upheld by a federal court.

Back in 2000, a handful of traditionally Republican states sued vote trading websites (which have largely now evolved into apps as the technology has improved). The Republican states alleged that the vote trading was illegal and illegally impacting election outcomes.

That Republican assertion was shot down for good in 2007. That’s when the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that not only is vote trading perfectly legal, the de facto practice is actually protected by the First Amendment as “constitutionally protected speech and conduct.”

Since that ruling, vote trading has become more popular and widespread. Apps, such as the Hillary Clinton vote trading app #NeverTrump, have made the ability to trade votes easier and more accessible than ever before.

According to the developer of the Clinton-favoring vote trading app #NeverTrump, the popularity of the app is skyrocketing. It has been downloaded tens of thousands of times since its September launch, and almost 10,000 Hillary Clinton and third-party voters have used it to successfully complete vote swaps across state lines.

Kumar adds that voters using the app have even conducted vote trading planning sessions while they waited their turn at polling locations across the nation.

While the #NeverTrump vote trading app has certainly become popular among frustrated Hillary Clinton voters, it’s not the only program of its kind. There are several similar apps and websites fully dedicated to preventing a Donald Trump win on November 8, including VotePact and TrumpTraders.

“The app itself is bringing together people who clearly do not agree — Jill Stein voters are different from a Clinton or Johnson voter — but what’s happening here is a large population, regardless of their policies, agree that a Trump presidency would be disastrous.”

With the election just a day away, there is still time for interested Hillary Clinton and third party voters interested in vote trading to meet up using #NeverTrump.
