Song Joong-Ki Sports Seoul Style For ‘Battleship Island,’ Filming Stills Revealed

South Korean heartthrob Song Joong-ki became a style statement when he starred in the military romance Descendants of the Sun. The actor, who is currently filming for his upcoming movie, Battleship Island, surprised the cast and crew when he doled out stylish vests from TOPTEN, South Korea’s renowned fashion brand.

According to TOPTEN officials, Song Joong-ki is a name to be reckoned with after he showed his acting prowess in Descendants of the Sun. This was precisely the reason he was chosen as the brand ambassador for TOPTEN, reported the South Korean news website Dmilbo.

Directed by Ryoo Seung-Wan, Battleship Island is an upcoming war movie starring actors Song Joong-ki, Hwang Jung-Min, and So Ji-Sub in the lead roles. Hallyu fans are expecting the movie to be a hit, as it boasts an excellent cast and crew. In fact, director Ryoo Seung-Wan has also spearheaded other movies, such as Veteran and The Berlin File. The movie will be distributed by CJ Entertainment, South Korea’s largest entertainment company.

The plot for Battleship Island is inspired by the brave Korean fighters who escaped the Japanese coal mines. The movie is set in the Japanese colonial era.

According to Asian Wiki, the story focuses on three characters: Lee Kang-Ok, played by Hwang Jung-Min, Choi Chil-Sung, played by So Ji-Sub, and Park Moo-Young, played by Song Joong-Ki. Lee Kang-Ok, who is a bandmaster at Kyungsung Hotel, decides to go to Japan to rescue his daughter. Instead, he gets caught and is exiled to Battleship Island. Choi Chil-Sung is a ferocious war hero, who is a nightmare to the guards of Battleship Island. Park Moo-Young is a young freedom fighter. He belongs to the Korean Independence group. He stealthily sneaks into Battleship Island in Nagasaki to rescue a member of the Korean Independence group.

According to a report by Yonhap, Song Joong-ki seems to be enjoying his time with the crew of Battleship Island. The team was recently in Chuncehon City. Song Joong-ki said he had to lose a lot of weight for the movie because the role shows that the character is exhausted.

“I am walking a lot because I have to lose a lot of weight,” he said.

According to news reports, the sets of Battleship Island was reproduced to 80 percent of the size of the actual island where Koreans were forced to work.

Recently, he was spotted sharing a meal with the crew. Thanks to Song Joong-ki, the entire cast and crew of Battleship Island receives frequent food trucks sent to them. A few months back, actress Song Hye-kyo, Song Joong-ki’s co-star in Descendants of the Sun, sent a food truck to the filming site.

A few others have also sent food trucks to the filming site.

For Song Joong-ki, Battleship Island is a profile booster. This will be the second project for the actor after his return from mandatory military duty.

After Descendants of the Sun, the actor’s reputation, as well as his earnings, skyrocketed. In fact, several reports have stated that Song Joong-ki’s earnings are higher than actors Lee Min-ho and Kim Soo-hyun.

“There are many articles making a guesswork on Song Joong-ki’s pay, but we can’t give you the exact amount,” said a representative from Blossom Entertainment, according to a report by Inquisitr. “But it is true that he is receiving many offers from global brands both domestically and internationally,” the official added.

However, with the current ban on Hallyu stars in China, it remains to be seen if the South Korean-made movie Battleship Island will make the profits that are expected.
