‘Outlander’ Season 3: More Sex For Claire and Jamie, More Frank [Spoilers]

Warning: This article may contain Outlander Season 3 spoilers.

Fans of Diana Gabaldon’s wildly popular Outlander book series know that Voyager, the third book in the set, doesn’t feature much of Claire’s (Caitriona Balfe) husband Frank (Tobias Menzies). However, TV Guide reports that Season 3 of the hit Outlander TV series, currently filming in Scotland, will contain many details of Claire and Frank’s life together after she leaves Jamie behind in Culloden and heads back through the stones to 1940s England.

“They’ve expanded that end of the story a little bit,” Gabaldon explained to the entertainment outlet. “But they’ve done it well, very consistently.”

Viewers hoping to see more of Jamie (Sam Heughan) shouldn’t despair, though. Gabaldon, who has seen the first four episodes of Outlander Season 3, says that his storyline remains close to the book’s storyline, including his much-anticipated confrontation with Black Jack (also played by Menzies).

“Most of Jamie’s stuff, which is a lot of the first part, is done very straight from the book. It’s very recognizable, you might say.”

Meanwhile, Caitriona Balfe recently talked to Vanity Fair about what fans can expect in Outlander Season 3. First of all, she acknowledged some viewers were disappointed by the lack of sex in Season 2.

“I definitely heard that they missed a lot of the intimacy between Jamie and Claire, which I think we were sort of expecting. I think even Sam and I sort of missed — especially in the beginning because it was so heavy on the politics — I think we were all missing those more intimate moments. They have so many of their iconic fan moments that they really are looking forward to, so you definitely always hear whenever some of those are not there. I’m trying to think of specifics for you, but the one that I just kept hearing, from what I saw on my Twitter: ‘Where’s the sex?'”

However, the actress promised that despite Claire and Jamie being separated for much of the season, there will be more sex in Outlander Season 3 than there was in Season 2.

“There will be some other sex going on,” Balfe explained. “I think to really let the reunion and everything that’s going to happen once Jamie and Claire see each other. I think it’s really special. Maybe they’ll have to wait a little bit, but I don’t think it’s going to be as scarce as last season, shall we say?”

And what was it like for Balfe to work without co-star Sam Heughan for much of the season?

“It’s really strange! Sam and I obviously have worked so closed together for the last three years. Even when I was filming some stuff with Tobias, it was never solid blocks where Sam and I would be working at least a couple of days in between. I definitely miss him. The other day we were in the makeup trailer right beside each other, and we’re like, ‘Oh, you’re off to your world, and I’m off to my world.’ It’s very strange, but the nice thing is I have been able to work with Tobias. I feel quite lucky. If I don’t have one husband, I’ve always got the backup. Not that either of them are backups, but it’s been an interesting and strange dynamic. I think pretty soon we’ll be back together, and he’ll be sick of the sight of me.”

As Inquisitr recently reported, Gabaldon has announced that the 10th book of the Outlander series will likely be her last. That was news to Balfe, but she expressed wonder at the prolific output of the author.

“I think it’s amazing that she’s done even 10 novels, and I’m sure at some point Jamie and Claire — they’re getting on there in age by the time we get into the eighth and ninth book — I guess it’d have to be inevitable,” she said.

What do you think of Caitriona Balfe’s Outlander Season 3 spoilers? Do you mind that Jamie and Claire will be separated for much of the upcoming season?
