‘The Curse of Oak Island’ Treasure Hunt Continues [Mild Spoilers]

Rick and Marty Lagina are returning for a new season of The Curse of Oak Island, and perhaps this will this be the season that changes everything. A preview clip on The Curse of Oak Island’s Facebook page shows the brothers and their team gearing up to resume their search as Rick says, “We have something that will astound you, it’s remarkable.”

They also put up a teaser video earlier today that says they can’t show fans of the show just yet what they found, but they promise it is worth the wait.

This season on The Curse of Oak Island, the team will focus their attention mainly on what is known as the “Money Pit.” Legend tells a fascinating story dating back to 1795 when three boys happened upon what looked like a man-made hole. Naturally, the boys were curious, and as they dug down into the hole, they found logs every few feet down. As they dug deeper, that’s not all that they and other searchers discovered, as tools, a gold chain, coconut fiber, and a stone that read “Forty feet below, two million pounds lie buried” were unearthed. As the digging continued, a series of traps were set off, which filled the hole with water and prevented further access to what remained below.

For over 220 years, the story of lost treasure has attracted many hopeful treasure hunters, including iconic figures such as John Wayne, Errol Flynn, and Franklin D. Roosevelt. Millions of dollars have been spent on trying to recover the elusive treasure, and so far, very little has turned up. There are clues, and of course, there is the curse to take into consideration. The story of the curse is based loosely on another legend, and it warns that seven must die before the mystery is solved, and so far six men have tragically lost their lives.

Fully aware of the curse, Rick and Marty have been very careful to take every safety precaution possible. They also have put to good use any previous knowledge gleaned from those who know the island and its history. Using the latest in cutting-edge technology and equipment, as well as utilizing a contingency of experts, the Lagina brothers continue to be optimistic that unlike so many others before them, they will be the ones to achieve success. Move News Guide noted that the Lagina brothers have described their eight-year journey on Oak Island as a roller coaster ride, but perhaps that ride is about to finally come to an end.

On previous The Curse of Oak Island seasons, the brothers have mainly concentrated their searches around the Money Pit, a location called Borehole 10-x, and thoroughly examined the swampy area on the island. Although they’ve only found a few things so far, they still believe there is enough evidence to justify their decision to continue the search, especially after Oak Island resident Fred Nolan put old rivalries with Dan Blankenship aside and agreed to work with Rick, Marty, and the rest of the team.

On this season of The Curse of Oak Island, everyone will be turning their attention strictly toward the Money Pit. Starcasm shared that the plan is to have one more diver down 10X to take a look at the bottom, which is an extremely dangerous undertaking, and if the diver is unable to find anything, they will dig a massive hole in the money pit so that they can find out once and for all what is there. From what the preview video clips are hinting at so far, this could be the year that Rick, Marty, and their team will finally find something promising, and all will be revealed on The Curse of Oak Island.
