Doctor Strange won’t be over when the final scene ends, with an after-credits scene and some hidden Easter eggs that offer spoilers for what could be an upcoming sequel to the latest Marvel Studios offering.

The stand-alone Marvel comic book movie will be coming out this weekend, kicking off the start of the holiday movie season. It has built up quite a bit of hype, and spoilers indicate that there will be an after-credits scene that points to an even bigger sequel.

For those not familiar with the concept of the after-credits scene (or have never thought to stick around until after all the credits have ended), it’s a scene of usually one or two minutes that’s tucked at the very end of the movie. This normally offers a bit of closure on an unresolved plot line or introduces a new element that will be seen in coming sequels.

The after-credits scene shows character Jonathan Pangborn (Benjamin Bratt), who during the movie came to The Ancient One to learn how to harness magic that would allow him to heal his paralyzed body. The after-credits scene shows Karl Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) attacking Pangborn in what ComicBook.com noted is his new mission: “eliminating what he feels to be an overpopulation of sorcerer’s in the world.”

As ComicBook.com went on to explain, the after-credits scene in Doctor Strange actually offers an Easter egg to those who followed closely along with the comic book.

In the comics, Karl Mordo is better known as “Baron Mordo,” the archnemesis of Doctor Strange. Like in the movie, Mordo and Strange’s comic book history includes them training together. However, in the comics, Mordo is unquestionably more evil, plotting to kill The Ancient One until Doctor Strange stopped him. Mordo was exiled and then become a practioner of the dark arts, often allying himself with the likes of demons and evil beings like Dormammu.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe Mordo is definitely a more complex and nuanced character, hitting the “not so much evil, just misguided” middleground of villainy. After his revelation about The Ancient One, he clearly sees magic itself as being a power that has gotten out of control, tainted from overuse by those like Pangborn, who Mordo sees as unworthy.

The report noted that this could mean Mordo is being set up as a “physically superior” nemesis for a Doctor Strange sequel.
