‘Stranger Things’ Season 2: Millie Bobby Brown To Return As Eleven [Report]

Stranger Things Season 2 is probably at least eight months away from beaming into our eyeballs through our streaming machines, but the Netflix hit looks as if it’ll have one of its most popular characters returning to the fold.

Warning: Spoilers ahead.

Eleven, played by Millie Bobby Brown, was the show’s breakout character (sorry, Barb fans). But the youngster vaporized herself in order to kill the Monster and protect her friends in the Season 1 finale. That seemed to suggest that we would not see Eleven in Season 2.

However, stranger things have happened (ahem). The first season gave a hint that Eleven was still out there, as police chief Jim Hopper ventures into the Indiana woods to leave some Eggos, Eleven’s favorite food, in a box, indicating that he knows that she is still alive somewhere in the Stranger Things universe.

There’s now a little more evidence that Millie Bobby Brown will return in Stranger Things Season 2, as TV Line reports that Eleven will indeed feature in the nine new episodes. It’s not clear how many episodes she will appear in as yet, and given that there’s a “tough and confident” young female role, Max, already cast for the season, some suggested that Eleven would only feature sporadically to avoid having too many similar characters at once.

Yet TV Line claimed that “all signs point to [Eleven] once again being a series regular,” so maybe Brown will star in most of the episodes after all.

Stranger Things executive producers Matt and Ross Duffer said in the summer that Eleven’s return was “up in the air,” presumably to keep the lid on a potential surprise reappearance of the girl with unusual powers. And then Sadie Sink was cast as Max, a girl whose “appearance, behavior and pursuits seem more typical of boys than of girls in this era.”

Stranger Things Season 2 is set in the fall of 1984, taking place around a year after the events of Season 1. Perhaps a year is enough time for the dissipated atoms of a girl with a buzzcut and psychokinetic abilities to reassemble into the physical body of a young human.

The next batch of nine episodes will delve deeper into the mystery and mythology of Will Byers’ disappearance into the Upside Down, the alternate reality from which the Monster emerged.

But Eleven was just as central to the first season as Will, so it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise that such an important character would return in Stranger Things Season 2. The first season was as much about unraveling the mystery of this odd young girl as it was Joyce, Jonathan, Hopper, and Will’s friends finding him.

As for other details about the second season of Stranger Things, Netflix is keeping tight-lipped. However, the streaming giant has released the episode titles for Season 2, as the Inquisitr previously reported. There will also be two new major characters other than Max, including Max’s older brother and a gender-neutral character named Roman, who is out for revenge after something happened to them at a young age.

The rest of the core Stranger Things cast is likely to return, including Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers, David Harbour as Hopper, Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler, Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson, Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas Sinclair, Natalia Dyer as Nancy Wheeler, and Charlie Heaton as Jonathan Byers.

Joe Keery (as Steve Harrington) and Noah Schnapp (Will) will also return after getting promoted to series regulars.

Meanwhile, to celebrate the first season and help pass the time until Stranger Things Season 2, many fans of the show dressed up as their favorite characters for Halloween this weekend.

Stranger Things Season 2 will be available on Netflix in 2017.
