It shocked the town of Wellesley when Dirk Greineder killed May Greineder, his wife of 31 years. Now, Boston natives will see the case as it unfolds on Investigation Discovery Channel’s Married with Secrets.

Mabel Greineder’s throat was cut, and she had been beaten to death with a hammer almost 17 years ago at Morses Pond in Massachusetts. Dr. Dirk Greineder was finally arrested, charged, and convicted of her murder. Today, Greineder sits in a Boston prison. Married With Secrets: “Cold Blue Blood” on ID

When a prominent doctor’s wife is attacked at Morses Pond, detectives think her murder maybe the work of a killer targeting other women in town. However, when the DNA evidence comes back a match to the well-respected physician, detectives learn that the motive for his wife’s murder may all be connected to the doctor’s sordid sex life and his obsession with a local prostitute.

October 1999: Halloween Murder in Massachusetts

The television crime series Married with Secrets delves into the lives of married couples who look happy on the outside but harbor dark and deadly secrets behind closed doors. Authorities say it was like that with 59-year-old Dirk Greineder. His family fit in beautifully in the upscale community of Wellesley. And his bedside manner? They say it was perfect. Everyone adored him. But what no one knew was that dirty Dr. Dirk had a secret, and his life included more than just attending to his patients.

But his secret wouldn’t be found out until his wife was murdered at Morses Pond in Wellesley in 1999. When police responded to the scene, Dr. Dirk Greineder led them down a wooded path, where they saw Mabel Greineder with a blow to the head and a stab wound to the throat. A bloody hammer was later found near the scene and was proven to be the murder weapon. Dateline NBC, who also did a story on the case, gives more detail about what investigators saw that morning.

“Her head battered with a blunt instrument, her chest stabbed, and her throat slashed. She was nearly decapitated. She was cut with a knife from here, all the way around—uh, gaping—two, two and a half inch wound. Her blouse had been pulled up, and her pants had been pulled down.”

When questioned by police, Married with Secrets will detail that the Brigham & Women’s Hospital doctor stated that he was going for a walk in the park with his wife until they were briefly separated when he walked ahead of her. Greineder also said that he was alerted that something was wrong after his dog stopped suddenly and led him back to where his wife’s body was found.

Prostitute’s Sex Moves Drove Dr. Dirk Berserk

To seasoned detectives, his explanation sounded strange. They later confirmed that Dirk Greineder was leading a double life. He was in love with a heroin-addicted prostitute whose sexual skill in the bedroom literally drove him crazy. His wife, May Greineder, found out about his use of sexual stimulants and his porn addiction. Dirk Greineder was afraid for anyone to find out about his extracurricular activities, so he killed his wife to maintain his good standing and reputation in the community.

Police used phone records, the murder weapon, and his computer searches to show that he intentionally lured May to the woods that day for the sole purpose of killing her and making it look like the work of a serial killer.
