Gwen Stefani Calls Blake Shelton Her ‘Unexpected Gift’: ‘He Was A Friend’

Gwen Stefani opened up about her failed marriage to Gavin Rossdale and her new romance with Blake Shelton in a new interview.

Just over a year after Gwen Stefani’s 13-year marriage to Rossdale came to an end, the singer spoke of her disappointment in the relationship.

“The intention of being married is the vow, right? You want to put everything into it and make it a success. And all I had to look at was the huge success of my parents: They just had their fiftieth wedding anniversary,” Gwen Stefani said during an interview with Glamour magazine, according to a report by Today on November 1. “[Marriage] was the one thing I didn’t want to fail at.”

Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale share three children together, but according to a report by Us Weekly magazine last year, that didn’t stop Rossdale from embarking on a sexual relationship with their former nanny, Mindy Mann. According to the report, Rossdale and Mann were involved in a years-long affair, and messages sent between them were seen by Gwen Stefani on their family’s iPad. However, after Gwen Stefani confronted Rossdale about his reported relationship, which was brought to her attention by a fellow staff member, he denied a sexual relationship and claimed their messages were nothing more than flirtation.

Although Rossdale initially denied the affair between himself and Mann, he was believed to have ultimately come clean, which prompted Gwen Stefani’s divorce filing last year.

Around the time that divorce filing was confirmed, Gwen Stefani began filming the ninth season of The Voice and right alongside her was Blake Shelton, who was also newly single after splitting from Miranda Lambert weeks prior.

“He was a friend to me when I needed a friend,” Gwen Stefani said, adding that Shelton was an “unexpected gift.”

During filming, Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton hit it off on a much deeper level than they had when they appeared on The Voice Season 7, and in November of last year, they confirmed they were dating before attending a Country Music Awards after party.

Since confirming their romance, Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton have been spending tons of time together in Los Angeles and in Shelton’s hometown in Oklahoma. Stefani and Shelton have also been seen together at one another’s concerts — even on stage. Meanwhile, at home, Stefani and Shelton are frequently seen with Stefani’s three boys, Kingston, 10, Zuma, 8, and Apollo, 2.

Although the past year has been a bit challenging and rocky, Gwen Stefani has a positive outlook on life.

“I’m trying to be present, not thinking and worrying about the past and the future,” said explained. “That’s such a waste of time, you know?”

While Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton aren’t currently appearing on The Voice together, Stefani is set to return to the series next year for the 12th season. When she does, she will be sitting beside her boyfriend and two other returning judges, Adam Levine and Alicia Keys.

Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton have faced rumors of wedding plans and plans to welcome a child in recent months, but so far, they haven’t announced an engagement or a pregnancy. That said, the couple remains completely close to one another and doesn’t show any signs of a potential future split.
