‘The Bachelor’ Star Nick Viall Faces Criticism: What Is He Trying To Prove This Season? [Spoilers]

Nick Viall has faced a ton of criticism throughout his time with the Bachelor franchise. Needless to say, Viall definitely has a feel for how The Bachelor operates and what is expected of him and the show. Viall stunned the world when he was announced as the leading man for season 21, airing in early January of 2017. Nick was chosen over front-runner Luke Pell just hours before Pell was set to head to Los Angeles for the big announcement. Unfortunately, it’s not just Luke fans who are not too happy Nick will be handing out the roses next season. Why is Nick facing so much criticism?

Looking back over Viall’s appearances on the show, Nick’s image has improved with time, but is he really sincere about finding love? In the beginning, most fans questioned Nick’s motives and did not like Viall too much, especially when he ousted Fantasy Suite secrets he shared with Bachelorette Andi Dorfman on live television. Viall then went on Kaitlyn Bristowe’s season of The Bachelorette and faced harsh criticism from fans and contestants. Nick improved his image slightly while on the show with Kaitlyn, but he still left broken-hearted and vowed he was done with the franchise. Viall later decided to give the franchise one more shot and went on his third journey on Bachelor in Paradise this past summer. Once again, he left alone after deciding he wasn’t ready to commit to Jen Saviano. It was then Nick was announced as the new star of The Bachelor.

Fans who love Nick are thrilled he has been given this opportunity. It’s been an ongoing joke that this time, he can’t end up being the runner-up. People shared that fans who love Nick weren’t the only ones excited he got the leading role. Knowing there would be a lot of haters, host Chris Harrison spoke up about why Viall was chosen.

Harrison said, “He has just become that perennial, second place guy who wants to find love and is as sincere, if not more sincere, than anybody about finding it.”

Harrison went on to say, “It’s about giving him his chance to find love. Who deserves it more than him?”

Chris addressed the critics by saying that the show has been picking contestants for a long time, and they know what the audience needs. Harrison also addressed those who feel Nick won’t find love because he hasn’t found it yet on the show. Chris said that Nick had found love, unfortunately, the other person chose someone else over him. Viall’s feelings were still real, and he is still very sincere about wanting to find the one for him.

While Harrison told Nick to be himself and not change a thing, there are still others who think that perhaps having a good image is extremely important to Viall. Reality Steve recently shared his thoughts on Nick as The Bachelor. Steve says that Nick cares way too much about his image and what people think of him.

With Viall having had experience on three other seasons, Steve said, “Nick is very much aware what he wants/needs to do this season.”

Reality Steve goes on to say that Viall is relishing going from villain to hero as the star of The Bachelor. A lot of viewers finally began to love Nick when he appeared on Bachelor in Paradise. While Steve says he does not care that Nick is the leading man, he says that “the ‘awww shucks’ attitude is an act.” Nick wants people to like him, and he wants to make good TV. Nick wants to be the best. This doesn’t mean that Nick is not sincere and doesn’t want to find love, just that perhaps he is doing a few things to draw attention and make Bachelor history. Nick does not like negative attention.

Reality Steve has also shared that Nick has given his first impression rose to an African-American woman. The woman is a very beautiful lawyer from Texas named Rachel Lindsay. Nick obviously has strong feelings for Rachel. Reality Steve took to Twitter to share that Nick has once again made Bachelor history because Rachel has made it to the final four. Viall will be going to Rachel’s hometown sometime this week to meet her family. How far do you think Rachel will make it on Nick’s season?

While there are a lot of critics who claim they won’t watch the show, there are plenty of Bachelor fans who are ecstatic Nick will be handing out the roses. With Viall as the lead, the show will definitely not be boring. Time will tell if Nick is able to find love once again on the show. He, along with everyone else, is hoping this will be his final appearance looking for love. Viall’s season of The Bachelor will wrap up filming in mid-November and will begin airing early in January on ABC. What do you think of Nick as the star of The Bachelor?
