Ariel Winter stepped out in at least two racy Halloween costumes this weekend.
The Modern Family star sported a Playboy bunny costume Friday evening, posting a black-and-white photo for her 2.6 million Instagram followers.
On Sunday evening, Winter donned an equally suggestive Halloween costume, opting to dress up as Hester Prynne from Nathaniel Hawthorne’s 1850 classic novel of seduction, adultery, repression, and shame, The Scarlet Letter.
Winter is no stranger to showing off her body on social media, and she has used Instagram as a platform for promoting body-positive messages in the past.
As Us Weekly reported on Saturday, Winter posted a photo of herself along with “a stern message for haters” earlier this week.
“To those who attack me with body-shaming comments your words are a reflection of what’s inside you, not me,” she said in a comment accompanying the selfie post. “The bullies I encounter online give me the chance to reaffirm to myself, and you guys, the importance of self-acceptance.”
In the mirror seen in the selfie, you can read the words “Used to be hot,” “Trashy,” and “Getting fatter,” phrases presumably pulled from negative comments Winter has previously received on social media posts.
She credits the confidence of women who came before her in the entertainment business for helping her feel proud and confident herself.
“As I got older, I was surrounded by people like Sofia Vergara, and people who were curvier like me and were proud of it. And who were showing it off,” she told People magazine. “That really helped me to move forward and be proud of my body.”
Winter has partnered with the Dove Self-Esteem project to help inspire girls to be positive about their bodies and self-image, People reports.
The Dove Self-Esteem project logo can be seen in the mirror in the selfie from the Instagram post.
Ariel Winter made both her film and television debuts in 2005, appearing in an episode of the CBS series Listen Up and the cult classic film Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, directed by Shane Black and starring Robert Downey, Jr. and Val Kilmer, according to her IMDB profile.
She’s starred as Alex Dunphy in Modern Family since 2009, sharing four Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series with her co-stars. Winter has also shared a Young Artist Award for Outstanding Young Ensemble in a TV Series with the cast of Modern Family. In 2012, she won a Young Artist Award for Best Leading Young Actress in a Feature Film for her role in The Chaperone.
She has also done voice work for several popular video games and animated films.
Despite her success on the screen, and the risqué implications of the costume, Ariel Winter’s Playboy bunny Halloween costume betrayed a since of fiscal modesty.
As People magazine points out, the costume was strikingly reasonably priced for someone with such star power.
“The Modern Family actress showed off her Halloween outfit on Instagram and Twitter Friday, along with a simple bunny emoji as her caption,” People reports. “Winter, 18, dressed up in a $37 strapless romper with attached tail from Los Angeles based custom-made lingerie store Trashy Lingerie.”
That’s refreshingly down to earth when compared with the extravagance of some other Hollywood Halloween costumes.
“She accessorized her night-out outfit with black bunny ears, bowtie collar, black tights and color coordinated platform heels,” People notes.
That down-to-earth attitude and her body-positive message are indicative of why so many people love the young actress.
While Ariel Winter maybe have some troll-like haters out there in the realms of the internet, she also has millions of adoring fans and is sure to continue getting attention for whatever Halloween costumes she chooses to wear for years to come.
