‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’ Star Rachel Bloom Wants A ‘Game Of Thrones’ Spot: ‘I Will Gladly Play A Dead Whore’

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend star Rachel Bloom was recently speaking at Entertainment Weekly’s PopFest in Los Angeles, which made for her first time attending the annual event as a representative of the CW musical comedy. While there, Bloom confessed to a harboring secret desire to appear on HBO’s Game of Thrones, even as a short-lived nameless victim. Rachel, like many other celebrities, admits to being fascinated with Game of Thrones, and speaking publicly about her ambitions may go a long way toward making her dream come true.

Ms. Bloom also opened up about her battles with anxiety and depression, adding her voice to a long list of celebrities seeking to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental illness.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Star Rachel Bloom Will Do Anything To Be On Game Of Thrones

Even though Rachel Bloom attended the Entertainment Weekly event to promote Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, she couldn’t help using the opportunity to hint at an interest in appearing in the last seasons of Game of Thrones. Bloom has become popular for her singing and comically-driven dialogue on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, but in discussing her interest in the HBO fantasy series, Rachel made a point to suggest that she has a much wider acting range.

“I just want to make it clear, if they want me on Game of Thrones, I will be on it,” Bloom joked. “I will gladly play a dead whore just to be on that show. No other show. I will play a dead whore, like, on a dead zombie corpse with, like, my eyeball coming out, just to be on Game of Thrones. Anyway, just putting it out there. Just a pitch for next season.”

Bloom added that she likes travelling with the Crazy Ex-Girlfriend cast to the various conventions and press junkets, particularly shows that are also attended by the Game of Thrones cast. As much as she loves Game of Thrones, Rachel seems to find the best enjoyment out of loving to hate the series, especially since the death of Jon Snow.

Addressing the idea that Game of Thrones would be at PopFest, Ms. Bloom commented that she would much rather visit their panel than sit and talk about Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

“‘Oh my god, Game of Thrones is going to be here, maybe they will talk about the dragons.’ F— you, we don’t care. Sing, Jon Snow. Sing about ping pong, motherf—er. Game of Thronesis like my favorite show and I’ve repeatedly called it lame in every panel we’ve done. Like for season 2, when we were changing our theme song, I said, ‘Let’s see Game of Thrones do that, you unimaginative a–holes.’ I’ve really ripped into Game of Thrones a lot, but I like it a great deal.”

Rachel Bloom Reveals Her Solution To Sleep Anxiety

Reported by People, Rachel explains that she only began to suffer from depression and anxiety on the evening before she was set to pitch Crazy Ex-Girlfriend to the networks, along with the series co-creator, Brosh McKenna. She describes the night, during which she put off sleep until the last possible moment, and when Bloom did finally turn in for the night, she found that she was suffering from insomnia, as a result of sleep anxiety. Rachel says she never fell asleep, and by the time she arrived at her network meetings, she looked like a wreck.

“That started a spiral. Every night before a pitch that week, I had sleep anxiety. I became delirious — and afraid that I wasn’t sleeping; ergo I would ruin everything. But the lack of rest didn’t ruin the pitches, and I was good at covering up my anxiety.”

A long line of well-meaning therapists failed to help Rachel overcome her sleep anxiety and she ultimately decided it was time to seek out the help of a psychiatrist. The new mental health professional diagnosed Rachel with depression before long.

“In his office I finally felt safe. I told him everything. Each session improved my life. He diagnosed me with low-grade depression and put me on a small amount of Prozac,” revealed Bloom. “There’s a stereotype (I had believed) that antidepressants numb you out; that didn’t happen to me.”

While the medication and the insights of a trained psychiatrist did help, Ms. Bloom reveals that her greatest ally in her fight against mental illness is meditation. Bloom adds that meditation helps her to focus on the present and to keep everything in perspective. Where Ms. Bloom has a tendency for a self-defeating mentality, meditation helps her to focus on the positive and on the real possibility of success.

“So I try to say to myself, ‘Hey, you only live once. Go along for the ride. Do your best.'”

The next episode of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is set to air on Friday, November 4, on The CW network.
