Earlier this week Apple announced the launch of its new MacBook Pro, the latest version of the company’s top-of-the-line laptop series. With all of the hype surrounding the release, and with MacBooks typically coming with a hefty price tag, consumers are looking for deals on the innovative new laptop that features a secondary screen called a “Touch Bar” across the top of the keyboard. You can watch the video below for more on that.
Sales on MacBooks are rare, especially right after a new version has been launched. However, Gizmodo reports that there are some retailers offering deals on the laptops.
“You can now order an entry level 13-inch MacBook Pro (without the Touch Bar) from Amazon at a significantly discounted price,” Gizmodo reports. “There’s a silver one for $1,139 and a space grey one for $1,299. That amounts to a $200 to $360 discount, depending on which model you want.”
Gizmodo explains that “A price cut like this is basically an unprecedented move for a brand new Apple product,” adding “this is probably the cheapest price you’ll see on the new MacBook Pro for quite some time.”
There is one negative to ordering either of these models from Amazon right now. They don’t actually have them in stock yet, so you will probably have to wait a little while for them to ship.

If you’re interested in one of the more expensive models, you’re in luck there, too.
“Amazon is also selling a more high-end 13-inch MacBook Pro (with Touch Bar and Touch ID) at a reduced price of $1,799,” Gizmodo notes. “That’s about $200 cheaper than you’ll find in the Apple Store. This keeps costs under $2,000 for one of the nicest laptops on the market.”
Other authorized retailers are also offering pricing deals or other perks, though none quite as generous as Amazon’s. For instance, MacMall is offering $15 to $35 off all models of the new MacBook Pro, and B&H does not charge tax for online orders in most states, according to Gizmodo. Sales tax can add up when you’re talking about a roughly $1,300 to $2,800 purchase, depending on the model.
In addition to deals on the MacBook Pro itself, there are also ways to save on accessories and add-ons.
For instance, Gizmodo points out that Amazon and B&H are offering a $50 discount on AppleCare insurance plans with purchases of the 15-inch MacBook Pro. They also recommend buying a new USB-C lightning cable if you want to be able to charge an iPhone 7 through a new MacBook Pro.
“Legit Apple cables are about $15 cheaper on Amazon than they are in the Apple Store,” according to Gizmodo.
Fans of the MacBook line of laptops have had to wait four years, since 2012, for a new edition to come out, Tech Crunch reports.
While the new MacBook Pro has been generally well received by reviewers, there are aspects of it that have drawn criticism.

In a followup article from Tech Crunch, Lucas Matney warns that “Apple’s new MacBook Pro kills off most of the ports you probably need.”
“Apple removed the MagSafe 2 charging port type, they stripped away the HDMI port, they ripped out the SD card slot, they shuttered the Thunderbolt 2 ports (which you probably used like three times) and they most notably killed the standard USB port,” Matney writes. “All these ports, which power data transfer and charging for most everything you likely use, have been replaced by four Thunderbolt 3/USB-C ports.”
This means many users will need to purchase adapters or additional cords, or start using different storage and data devices. It’s a move reminiscent of Apple’s decision to remove the earphone jack from the iPhone 7, forcing users to opt for more expensive wireless Lighting or Bluetooth headphones or to wait for Apple’s AirPods.
The AirPods are expected to retail for $159 a pair, making them far more expensive than traditional headphones with a 3.5 mm input. This makes finding deals on the laptop even more important for consumers who use multiple Apple technologies.
If the MacBook Pro and other Apple products continue to increase in price, more and more people will need to find deals like the ones from Amazon to be able to afford them.
