NBA Scores: Chicago Bulls Beat Boston Celtics, Dwyane Wade Has Strong Game With New Team

Dwyane Wade has a history of proving people wrong. When he decided to leave the Miami Heat for the Chicago Bulls, many in the NBA felt that it was a mistake. It is just the first game of the regular season, but Wade has already earned himself a victory over one of the better teams in the Eastern Conference in the Boston Celtics, as reported by ESPN.

Boston Celtics Starters

Isaiah Thomas wants to prove to the NBA that he deserves to be an All-Star player. He efficiently put up 25 points against a solid Chicago Bulls defense. He also had three rebounds, four assists, and two steals. The five turnovers are a bit disturbing, but that can be fixed.

Avery Bradley, Jae Crowder, and Al Horford provided tremendous support for Isaiah Thomas. The trio combined for 41 points, 19 rebounds, and 11 assists. That helped the Boston Celtics keep up with the Chicago Bulls.

Amir Johnson was a starter, but it was only nominally. He only played 16 minutes. Boston Celtics head coach Brad Stevens might make a change in the starting lineup before the season is over.

Boston Celtics Backups

Brad Stevens relied heavily on the Boston Celtics bench. Terry Rozier, rookie Jaylen Brown, and Tyler Zeller were given a good amount of time on the court. The trio combined for 22 points, ten rebounds, six assists, two steals, and two blocks. They are going to need to produce a little bit more if they want to prevent Stevens from being overly reliant on the starting five.

Gerald Green and Jonas Jerebko were given a decent amount of time by Brad Stevens, but they did not show enough against the Chicago Bulls to warrant more playing time in the rotation.

Boston Celtics Reserves

Jordan Mickey, Demetrius Jackson, and James Young are all young players and could play a part in the future of the Boston Celtics, but for right now, Brad Stevens opted to keep them on the bench against the Chicago Bulls.

Chicago Bulls Starters

Before the season started, the Chicago Bulls were sold on four of their five starting positions. Rajon Rondo, Dwyane Wade, Jimmy Butler, and Robin Lopez had basically secured their spots in the lineup. It turns out that the power forward position would end up being handed to Taj Gibson, who beat out stretch forward Nikola Mirotic.

Dwyane Wade and Jimmy Butler were a dominant combination. Together, they scored 46 points, pulled down 13 rebounds, and dished out eight assists. Wade and Butler shot well from the field, beyond the three point line, and from the free throw line. If the Chicago Bulls can get consistent production from Wade and Butler like this, then they are going to pose problems for opposing NBA teams.

Rajon Rondo missed eight of the nine shots that he took, but he provided production in other areas. The former Boston Celtics star registered six rebounds, nine assists, and two steals, showing that he is capable of being an asset even when his shots are not falling.

New starting center Robin Lopez provided eight points and eight rebounds, which is not a bad night for the Chicago Bulls. The former New York Knicks star has a habit of producing well beyond what the box scores show.

Chicago Bulls Backups

Chicago Bulls head coach Fred Hoiberg decided to keep his rotation short during the first week of the NBA regular season. He opted to give meaningful minutes to only Michael Carter-Williams, Doug McDermott and Nikola Mirotic. McDermott did not really stand out. Carter-Williams had five points, six rebounds, and three assists, which helped the Bulls. Mirotic might have earned himself some more playing time with 15 points and nine rebounds.

Chicago Bulls Reserves

Three players failed to get off the bench for the Chicago Bulls. Paul Zipser, a second pick, was not expected to do much, so his benching was not a surprise. Denzel Valentine was a first round pick this season, so it was a surprise that he could not earn even a single minute against the Boston Celtics. Bobby Portis was in the discussion for the starting power forward position, so it was a bit of a surprise that he was kept out of the game.
