The Evil Dead remake teaser trailer was unveiled over the weekend at the New York Comic Con. Although the clip hasn’t enjoyed an official release onto the internet, that hasn’t stopped someone from leaking amateur video of the teaser online. It’s not the clearest or cleanest video you’re likely to watch all day, but it will give you a good idea of what you can expect from the remake.
According to Worst Previews, the Evil Dead remake stars Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Elizabeth Blackmore, and Jessica Lucas. Bruce Campbell is also listed as being a part of the production, though it’s currently unclear what sort of role the cult actor will tackle for this particular outing. Since Campbell is part of the franchise’s appeal, it’s not surprising that he would sign on for a cameo in the film.
Bloody Disgusting describes the plot as follows:
“Five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin. When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.”
Although the upcoming version of Evil Dead is definitely considered a remake, the film’s director, Fede Alvarez, really doesn’t want you to refer to his movie as such. “That doesn’t mean anything really, that’s a marketing thing,” he explained. “It’s a movie, it’s 90 minutes, it’s called ‘Evil Dead.’ It’s about five guys who go to a cabin, one of them wants to kick an addiction, so she locks herself in a cabin with her best friends. So they do that and discover the Necronomicon. So is that a remake? I don’t know.”
