Luke Pell’s Debut Album To Include Songs About ‘The Bachelorette’ JoJo Fletcher

Luke Pell isn’t crying the blues over JoJo Fletcher, he’s singing about her. The Bachelorette third place finisher is in the process of recording his debut album, and he is being heavily inspired by his whirlwind romance with Jordan Rodgers’ fiancée.

In an interview with Us Weekly, Pell revealed that he’s taking the Taylor Swift approach to songwriting for his debut country music album.

“A lot of artists write about past relationships and current ones,” Luke told the magazine. “You write about the good and the bad and the ugly as a way to paint of picture of what happened. You’re a storyteller at the end of the day. So absolutely, there will be some of that about JoJo in my writing.”

Pell also said that fans of the ABC reality show who witnessed his hometown date heartbreak will probably be able to figure out which songs are about Fletcher.

“People will pick up on it because they’ve seen what happened in reality, but I don’t say her name,” Luke revealed. “They’ll be able to draw connections from what the music is saying. But I try not to go too cliché. I don’t have a rose song!”

Luke Pell says that his upcoming album will cover “the full spectrum of emotions” with songs that “cover the happy times and the falling in love.” But he adds that he has to include the bad times too, and “the parts that hurt a little bit.”

Pell, who is also a military veteran, also dished that he penned at least one of the album’s songs while he was filming The Bachelorette earlier this year and that he played it for JoJo, although the footage of his serenade never aired on ABC.

“I think she loved it — I hope!” Pell said.

In an interview with Extra, Luke said writing music is like therapy for him and that he likes to be able to tell the story of his past relationships through song. Pell revealed that there are a few songs on his album about JoJo and that eagle-eyed fans will recognize the references.

“I think it’s a little cryptic, but it will come to the surface,” Pell said. “There is one love song and a few more breakup songs. That’s how it came out, so you’ve got to write about it.”

Interestingly, Luke Pell’s aspirations as a country music singer may have been what hurt his chances to star as the next lead on The Bachelor. Pell was the frontrunner for the high-profile Season 21 gig, but just hours before he was set to fly to Los Angeles to begin filming, producers switched gears and went with franchise veteran Nick Viall instead.

While Pell expressed confusion over the last minute change of plans, insiders told Entertainment Tonight that Luke may have put too much focus on his aspirations as a country music singer when negotiating for the lead role. Show host Chris Harrison also hinted that questions were raised that Pell may not have been interested in doing the show for the “right reasons.”

While he didn’t get the coveted Bachelor gig, Luke Pell is using his experiences and fame from the show to pave the way for his recording career. And that could last a whole lot longer than an engagement on a reality show.

Luke Pell’s debut album is set to be released in January 2017, just in time for the debut of Viall’s season of The Bachelor.
