‘Westworld’ Theories: Is There A Robot Among The People Outside The Park? The Primary Suspects Unveiled

HBO’s Westworld is quickly becoming an increasingly intriguing series, which makes it not surprising for fans to speculate on possible twists and turns the plot is about to take.

With that said, among the most talked about theories since the show first aired its pilot episode is the fact that Westworld can feature convincing characters that turn out to be a robot, which is why many are now thinking that some of the people working on the hosts are actually hosts themselves.

Based on these theories, there are a couple of characters who are featured as behind-the-scenes employees of the park that have high potential to actually be robots.

Westworld Robot Theory: The Main Suspects

First among the list of suspects is Bernard Lowe (Jeffrey Wright), Westworld’s Head of Programming who, according to fan theories, is actually an android that was created to watch over the other hosts of the park.

One detail that supports this theory is the fact that Bernard has a backstory that—like other hosts—provides grounds for his existence. In his case, Bernard’s backstory is the death of his son.

According to theorists, it is possible that Bernard was created by Dr. Robert Ford (Anthony Hopkins) to aid him in managing the other hosts. Some also believe that the reason why Bernard has a soft spot for Westworld hosts is because of his programming.

Of course, there is still the possibility that Bernard is a real person who happens to have traits that are very similar to the hosts and has decided to grant them consciousness to make Westworld more interesting. We couldn’t know for sure.

The next suspect is Dr. Robert Ford who is portrayed as the creator of the park but is theorized to be a robot who was formerly a real human.

Theories suggest that the Dr. Ford we see during the episodes of Westworld is actually an android who houses the consciousness of the actual creator of the park—the mysterious Arnold. Another proof cited by theories that this is highly likely is Dr. Ford’s uncanny ability to control hosts.

However, skeptics believe that it won’t be possible to be a robot and be harsh to your fellow robots—at least not unless he was programmed to be so.

Next suspect on the list of possible Westworld secret robots is The Man In Black. The enigmatic character portrayed by Ed Harris might actually be one of the hosts and just doesn’t realize it.

The strongest evidence to support this is The Gunslinger from the original Westworld movie, his character inspiration, as well as his unusual interest with The Maze.

Of course, he might actually be a real human considering that the hosts’ weapons don’t work on him as revealed in the pilot episode of the show.

Aside from those three, Elsie Hughes, Ashely Stubbs, Theresa Cullen, and Lee Sizemore are possible candidates of becoming the secret robot of Westworld though they have less compelling reasons to be.

William and Logan are also suspects, though there appears to be much lesser proof that they are actually hosts shrouded with an identity of the real human—unless the theory about William being the younger Man In Black is true.

But no matter how much we speculate on this, we can never know for sure unless we watch what will happen next on HBO’s Westworld. That is, unless there is some immensely resourceful fan who is able to dig up information and leak it to the world like what happened with the Game of Thrones.
