The Walking Dead lost two key members of their family during the shocking Season 7 premiere on Sunday night. The memories of Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun) and Abraham Ford ( Michael Cuditz) will live forever in the heart and mind of every real Walking Dead fan.

Entertainment Weekly interviewed Steven Yeun and got the scoop about how he plans to deal with his alter ego’s death and what’s in store for The Walking Dead alum now that he has much more free time on his hands.

“I don’t know if I’ve fully processed it, yet,” Steven explained about Glenn’s shocking death on The Walking Dead. And, for many TWD fans, they understand exactly how he feels. “This is something that will hit me maybe in a couple of months or next year. Maybe it will be when I am 45 and all the sudden I will start crying in my kitchen and cannot understand why I am brought to tears,” Yeun stated.

Steven went on to say that because of the way The Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 1 was written, it was easy for him to get emotional which made his “death scene” much more emotional for the viewers.

“At that point, it was beautiful in that it was so easy for me to get emotional. Personally, for me, I’m not one to cry all the time. I don’t cry much in real life,” Steven explained. “And when you do not cry in real life, the moments that you do cry are very, very fulfilling and cathartic. You realize, maybe I should cry more in general.”

Yeun revealed that he thought the violence in the Walking Dead episode was too much, but understood why production felt it was warranted in the scene. Steven explained that he watched the scene with his family, and it was hard for them to watch it due to the graphic nature of Glenn’s death.

“It was a confusing time for me personally,” Steven said of his exit from The Walking Dead. “It was a sense of relief that a chapter in my life was closing. A sense of accomplishment in looking back and seeing all the things that I got to be a part. A sense of sadness in knowing I don’t get to work with these people in the same way again. I didn’t know how to place a lot of it because it was such a secret until Sunday night.”

For Steven, there is life after The Walking Dead, Hollywood Reporter noted. He landed a role in the film Okja with filmmaker Bong Joon-ho. The monster drama centers around a little girl who befriends a genetically modified pig named Okja. The pig grows up to enormous proportions, and the girl decides to take on the corporation that owns the pig. The film started production in April in South Korea. Netflix has not announced when it will be released.

Yeun was also cast in the indie action thriller Mayhem. It centers on a virus that is capable of making people act out their wildest impulses. It isn’t known when the movie will be released just yet.

Steven Yeun will continue to work on other projects but will appreciate his time on The Walking Dead. He noted that he would remember his TWD family and hold the memories they shared all these years close to his heart. Steven explained that his alter ego’s death felt like a member of his family died and he’s not sure how he should feel about it yet.
