Police Respond To Shooting At Utah Middle School, 16-Year-Old Boy Injured [Breaking]
Update [7:00 PM EST]: Reports indicate that the alleged shooter is a 14-year-old Union Middle School student.

Police reports also indicate that the age of the victim was 16, not 12 as initially reported. The teen is reportedly in critical condition following two gunshot wounds.

Update [6:00 PM EST]: KUTV is reporting that both the victim and alleged shooter were students at the Union Middle School. It was also noted that the injured 12-year-old boy was shot twice.

Update [5:53 PM EST]: The NY Daily News reports that the victim is a 12-year-old boy. Police confirmed the child was injured during the shooting and taken to a nearby hospital. Police note that the incident began when the two boys got into an argument outside of the school.

The school district has also revealed that the lockdown has been lifted and that parents can now pick up their children.

Update [5:42 PM EST]: Police have confirmed that one male child was injured in the shooting and has been taken to the hospital via ambulance. The Salt Lake Tribune reports that the boy was injured outside of the school and that his condition is unknown. The suspected shooter was identified as another male child and has been taken into custody. The ages of the victim and alleged shooter have not been released.
The school has yet to comment on whether the two boys involved in the shooting were students but noted that all students outside the building at the time of the shooting were brought inside as the school was placed on lockdown. Parents were notified of the incident via the school’s emergency message system.
Parents report that the message asked parents not to come to the school until further notice and indicated the lockdown.

Following the reports of the shooting in the media, the Canyons District responded by noting that the incident took place outside of the school and that students were being evacuated.
