‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7 Theories: Do New Spoilers Reveal the End of the White Walkers?

Warning: The following article contains spoilers for Game of Thrones Season 7

In light of the confirmation that Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) will meet in Season 7, there is a flurry of speculation to sift through. The revelation has shaken up a lot of what we know about the upcoming season of Game of Thrones. While a lot of us expected Jon to meet his aunt at some point, them meeting in Season 7 definitely generates a few questions.

One of the biggest being why Jon has ventured so far from home to catch up with Dany? When Game of Thrones Season 6 ended, Jon had just been crowned King in the North, and there was more than enough to keep him busy there. Sending Ser Davos Seaworth (Liam Cunningham) would be an easy solution to handle any diplomatic issue. So why is Jon going himself?

And more pointedly, why is he leaving his siblings when the Starks just regained Winterfell? And when the White Walker threat that Jon has been so vigilant about, has supposedly hit critical mass?

Maybe it is because the White Walker threat that many fans have believed tantamount to the climax of the series is not such a major player after all. If the White Walkers were continuing to make progress south towards Winterfell, there is no way Jon would leave his siblings to go at it alone. He has to be pretty confident they are safe, to leave them.

On a personal front, he just reunited with Sansa (Sophie Turner) in Season 6, and as the Inquisitr reported, it is believed Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright) and Arya (Maisie Williams) will follow in Season 7. Why has he had to leave the family he has longed to be with just when they are all back together? Is he bringing them with him? We do not know yet.

Now, some have argued that Jon has left the North to secure the Khaleesi’s aid in the “long night to come” by asking her to supply him with backup in the battle against the Walkers. The thing is Jon could ask her for that by sending a raven or some other messaging catalyst. Why would he risk leaving his family and the people of the North to go there in person? There might be an answer.

Is it possible that Jon has vanquished the White Walkers by the time he meets Dany? And he is there to settle the matter of his birthright and nothing more? If the White Walker threat is over, why else would he need to see her in person? Here are some possibilities.

Dany Needs Jon’s Help

It is hard to fathom that the Mother of Dragons with her aforementioned dragons, a brilliant strategist, top flight team, powerful fighting force and strong alliances would need further help to take down Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey). But this is Game of Thrones, and a major key to use when trying to predict what will happen next is to expect the unexpected.

Dany Invites the Starks to have their Revenge

Supposing that Daenerys tramples over Cersei’s forces in Season 7, there is a chance she would want the Starks to have a ringside seat to Cersei’s demise. After all, Dany has no legitimate beef with Cersei aside from wanting the Iron Throne.

For her, there is no bad blood or grudge at stake in Cersei’s takedown. The Khaleesi is familiar with such dynamics and with Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) as her Hand, she will likely get a thorough education about the Starks and Cersei.

Knowing everything his sister has put the Starks through, Tyrion might think it a proper gesture to have them on hand to witness her downfall. If that’s the case, though, where are Arya and Sansa?

Is Daenerys Biding her time to Strike?

While it has seemed that Dany is primed to sweep Cersei in the Clash of the Queens, we know that nothing comes easy on Game of Thrones, especially for the heroes of the story. Look no further than the retaking of Winterfell last season for a lesson in that.

Maybe Dany is taking her time to gather more forces, inviting Jon as a Stark to participate in the battle as his family has lost so much to Cersei. Because let’s face it, Game of Thrones has to know that watching a Cersei takedown without a Stark playing an integral role would be a major letdown.

One More Clue

Judging from the Game of Thrones set photos that have leaked online and been reported on by Winter is Coming, it appears that Jon is wearing armor when he arrives on Dany’s turf. Which begs the question, why is Jon prepared for life-threatening resistance if he is visiting Daenerys in a friendly capacity? Just a little more fire and ice for thought. Either way, the White Walker threat as we have known it has to be at a low or insignificant level for Jon to leave the North to find out.

As with anything Thrones related; there are lot more questions than answers at the moment. The only way to learn the latter is to tune in when Game of Thrones returns to HBO next summer.
