‘Deadpool 2’ Cable Casting Caused Tim Miller To Quit

Rumors have been swirling for months regarding the casting of a new character in Deadpool 2: Cable. The character has been a confirmed member of Deadpool 2 since its announcement, alongside Domino, a female mutant who may be Deadpool’s love interest in the sequel.

With recent news that Deadpool 2 director Tim Miller has departed work on the production due to creative differences with star and producer Ryan Reynolds, it’s unclear when fans can expect to get any concrete news about Deadpool 2. Presumably, the studio needs to replace Miller as quickly as possible so that they can still enter production in time to make the film’s early 2018 release date.

Thankfully, the Deadpool sequel (which does not currently have another title besides Deadpool 2) is quickly assembling a team of actors to fill in the main roles. As reported by The Wrap, the studio is currently considering six potential actors for the role of Domino in Deadpool 2. With the studio close to finding their Domino, filling the role of Cable should come closely behind. In Deadpool 2, Cable and Domino will play key lead roles, so it is imperative that the studio find actors who have great chemistry with each other and with Ryan Reynolds.

While a variety of actors have been suggested to play Cable, two actors seem to be the finalists for the part. According to Lazy Gamer, Liam Neeson has been suggested for the role, and FOX likes the idea of the grizzled action hero playing Cable in Deadpool 2.

The rumor of Neeson as Deadpool 2‘s Cable seemed doomed, unfortunately, because director Tim Miller did not want to cast the actor. However, now that Miller has departed the project, Neeson could be back in.

In a recent update to the story, The Wrap reported that Miller left Deadpool 2 precisely because he did not approve of casting Kyle Chandler as Cable.

“Miller wanted more of a stylized sequel, while the actor placed his focus more on the raunchy comedy style that earned the first movie its R rating. The casting issue also eventually came to a head over Kyle Chandler’s rumored participation. Miller wanted the “Bloodline” star to play Cable, though Reynolds did not. Ultimately, the studio backed its marketable star, and the man behind the camera packed up his lenses.”

Cinema Blend had previously reported that while the studio has not made their final decision yet, the Deadpool 2 Cable role could potentially be filled by Kyle Chandler of Friday Night Lights fame. Interestingly enough, the report adds that “The Martian actress Mackenzie Davis is being eyed for the role of Domino.” Since Davis was not on the recent list of Domino contenders for Deadpool 2, it is possible that the list of actors being considered for Cable may be more extensive than anticipated.

“This news is quite the departure from previous casting rumors… Noticeably absent from all of the lists of possible Cables was Kyle Chandler, so if this rumor ends up being factual it could really blow some Marvel minds.”

Avatar actor Stephen Lang is also gunning for the Deadpool 2 Cable role, according to Cinema Blend.

This isn’t the first time that the Deadpool 2 Cable casting has been rumored. Deadpool himself teased the inclusion of Cable in the upcoming sequel during a post-credits scene in Deadpool.

The scene is a humorous parody of typical Marvel post-credit scenes, which usually feature Easter eggs hinting towards plot points in future movies. “Oh, you’re expecting a teaser for Deadpool 2? Well, we don’t have that kind of money,” Deadpool assures viewers.

He did, however, offer a few hints about the sequel” “we’re gonna have Cable.”

“We have no idea who we’re gonna cast yet but it could be anyone. Just need a big guy with a flat top. Could be Mel Gibsen, Dolph Lundgren, Keira Knightley… She’s got range, who knows?”

Do you think that in Deadpool 2 Cable should be played by Liam Neeson, or are you on Tim Miller’s side?
