Benedict Cumberbatch’s New Marvel Superhero Role, Says The Internet Is Full Of People Who Want To ‘F*** You, Kill You, Maybe Both At The Same Time’

Benedict Cumberbatch turned into a rock star when he sang “Comfortably Numb” along with Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour during a rock concert that was held at London’s Royal Albert Hall. Fans were amusingly surprised when they saw the Sherlock actor belting out the popular song that appeared on The Wall, Pink Floyd’s epic album that narrates the story of a self-destructive rock star who builds a psychological wall that holds back his fans from peeking into his tumultuous life.

Incidentally, it appears that Benedict Cumberbatch is now isolating himself from his fans in a way by refusing to be active on social media. In a recent press conference, Benedict Cumberbatch’s decision to stay clear of social media was made public by the actor himself, who became hugely popular and garnered a massive fan following by playing the role of intellectual characters who strive to protect people by fighting crime.

Apart from playing Sherlock Holmes in Sherlock, Benedict Cumberbatch has featured in The Imitation Game by playing the role of Alan Turing, a mathematical genius who helps the Allies to fight the Nazis by deciphering intercepted coded messages. Now, the British actor will be seen playing the role of Dr. Stephen Strange, a Marvel superhero, in the upcoming Doctor Strange.

Doctor Strange is a neurosurgeon who assumes the role of the Supreme Sorcerer to fulfill his destiny to save the world. It is natural for fans to expect Benedict Cumberbatch to follow in the footsteps of his Hollywood counterparts and maintain his presence on social media. However, the Sherlock actor refuses to socialize with his fans on the internet by keeping his private life and his personal opinions to himself.

During a recent press conference, Benedict Cumberbatch revealed that he purposefully stays away from social media, as he believes that his interactions with his fans could turn out to be harmful to his popular image. The Sherlock actor’s concern about his social presence media stems from the fact that celebrities can face the risk of being attacked by fans, and more specifically by internet trolls, who aim to defame their victims. According to HitFix, Benedict Cumberbatch revealed his desire to enjoy his private space instead of getting upset by the negative experiences he may face on the internet.

“I think you can just throw yourself at the internet’s mercy and be part of social media and get into a room with people who wanna f*** you, kill you, maybe some both at the same time.”

Earlier, Benedict Cumberbatch had revealed that he would love to write a diary that may be passed on to his grandchildren. However, the actor was also quick to add that he would refrain from publishing the journal for public audiences.

Even though he bears reservations regarding social media interactions, Benedict Cumberbatch holds the opinion that actors should let their fans know about their professional lives and other humanitarian activities. According to People, Benedict Cumberbatch recently interviewed Tom Hiddleston, the British actor who plays Loki in Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok, on behalf of Interview Magazine to learn more about his acting career and professional journey.

It was earlier revealed that Doctor Strange would appear in the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok, however, the news was not confirmed, as the topic did not come up in Benedict’s conversation with Tom Hiddleston. In fact, Hiddleston spoke more about his camaraderie with Chris Hemsworth, the Australian actor playing the role of Thor.

But fans can expect Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hiddleston to work together in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War because Dr. Strange’s storyline will serve as a precursor to the events that unfold in Infinity War. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the Sherlock actor revealed the actual reason for introducing Doctor Strange in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“To get us [Marvel Superheroes] all together will be quite something. That’s why this character is being introduced, to open up the next chapter.”
