Selena Gomez Weight Loss, Smoking Cause Concern As Taylor Swift Supports BFF Amid Lupus Battle?
Selena Gomez has some of the most loyal fans in celebrity land, and many of them are turning to Twitter to express their concern and send love during her battle with lupus and its symptoms. In addition to those fans supporting her, the “Kill ‘Em With Kindness” singer is getting support from her best friend, Taylor Swift, who has reportedly stepped up to demonstrate just what BFFs are for.

Hollywood Life cited a source who shared just how much Swift, 26, has shown her love and support for her 24-year-old pal.
“Taylor offered to let Selena stay with her and use her private plane during her hiatus.”
Swift and Gomez both are staying out of the spotlight for the most part, noted Hollywood Life. Taylor has been low-key since splitting from Tom Hiddleston, 35, in September. However, Swift is scheduled to perform at the Formula 1 U.S. Grand Prix in Texas on October 22.

As for whether Gomez accepted Taylor’s offer to stay with her, the “Kill ‘Em With Kindness” singer was recently seen smoking outside of a rehab facility in Tennessee, where she is allegedly staying, according to Hollywood Life. However, those cigarettes are causing concern, and an expert explains why.
“Smoking complicates and increases the negative effects of lupus,” Dr. Bruce Lee, M.D., told Hollywood Life. “Smoking cigarettes…causes too much stress on the body and stress is what causes lupus flare-ups.”
In addition, Dr. Lee cautioned that smoking cigarettes boosts the chronic bronchitis, as well as making it more challenging “to manage the symptoms of lupus.”
When Gomez revealed her plan to take a hiatus to cope with her lupus symptoms, she emphasized her desire to “focus on maintaining my health and happiness.” Consequently, the sight of those cigarettes is causing some fans to urge her to quit with the hashtag “#SelenaStopSmoking.”

Does lupus result in weight loss, and what are the symptoms? A guest blogger for the Lupus Foundation discussed why it matters when celebrities such as Gomez are open about the autoimmune disease, and she explored some of the symptoms.

Noting that she received a diagnosis of lupus when she was 26, Lisa Walters emphasized the benefits of having a celebrity such as Selena provide a “public face” for the disease while describing her own symptoms.
The “Same Old Love” singer has stated that she took time off to focus on the effects of lupus, including “anxiety, depression and panic attacks,” pointed out Walters. The blogger also clarified the challenges in functioning with “an unpredictable disease,” with days ranging from “symptom-free” to time spent in an emergency room or doctor’s office feeling “sick, in pain and scared.”
Other lupus symptoms include muscle weakness and even problems chewing and swallowing food, according to Walters. She has experienced migraines, “horrible joint and muscle pain,” and “countless infections” as well.
Reflecting on Gomez’s revelation that she even had to experience chemotherapy for lupus, Walters clarified the mental health issues linked to the disease.
“Of course having to deal with something like that can cause depression and anxiety,” she stated. “I would be shocked if anyone could come out of that without mental health issues.”
Above all, the blogger emphasized her wishes for the pop princess’ future.
“It’s awful that Selena is experiencing the mental and physical symptoms of lupus, and that she has to cope with a serious disease diagnosis at such a young age,” she added. “I hope that she gets the help she needs and can get back to doing the things she loves in life.”
And some of the “things she loves” include Taylor, with Swift planning a “girls’ weekend” for her friend when she feels better, an insider told Hollywood Life.
“As soon as Selena’s feeling better, Taylor has promised a girls’ weekend,” shared the source. “She can hang out with their girls [squad] and they can pamper themselves at a health spa.”
