He Said, She Said: Perrie Edwards Confirms Zayn Malik Dumped Her Via Text

Perrie Edwards is living up to the name of her new single, “Shout Out to My Ex.” The Little Mix singer is dishing all about her split with Zayn Malik. The couple ended their engagement back in August 2015. While it’s clear that both Perrie and Zayn are over each other, she does not like how the singer addressed their split.

Zayn Malik and Perrie Edwards seem to have varying stories about what really went down. Malik ended his relationship and engagement with the blonde pop star and started dating Gigi Hadid just two months after their breakup. In August of that year, numerous reports claimed he broke up with the singer via text message. According to a leaked excerpt on Twitter on Sunday, October 16, Edwards confirmed in Little Mix’s new book, Our World, that he did dump her via text message, as reported via E! Online.

In the passage, Edwards wrote, “I’m single at the moment and in a really good place. I feel like I’m stronger and happier than I’ve been in a long time. I’ve bought a house and it’s like I’ve found my independence after going through a really tough time.”

While describing the end of her relationship with Malik, the 23-year-old pop star wrote, “It was horrible, the worst time of my life. A four-year relationship, two-year engagement ended by a simple text message. Just like that. Even though things in my career were going really well, it was incredibly difficult for me.”

Back in November, the “Pillowtalk” singer addressed the reports that he had broken up with her via text.

“If you could word it exactly this way, I’d be very appreciative,” Malik, 23, said in his first solo interview with Fader magazine. “I have more respect for Perrie than to end anything over text message. I love her a lot, and I always will, and I would never end our relationship over four years like that. She knows that, I know that, and the public should know that as well. I don’t want to explain why or what I did. I just want the public to know I didn’t do that.”

The quotes surfaced after Edwards and her bandmates performed their new song on stage on The X Factor UK on Sunday night. Just hours after their performance, “Shout Out to My Ex” became the fastest reported single to reach No. 1 on the UK iTunes since Adele’s “Hello,” according to the Daily Mail. The next morning on Capital Breakfast with Dave Berry, George, and Lilah, Edwards said that recording and writing the song for their forthcoming album was very “therapeutic.”

“I think the whole album has been like that for us. I feel like we’ve all had therapy on this album. We wrote about everything and we’ve been so honest and open about everything.”

However, let’s get back to something else Edwards said in that excerpt. She admitted that she was single amid the reports that she is dating British actor Luke Pasqualino. The two have been spotted on various dates and were recently spotted sharing a kiss, reports the Sun. Speaking to the Daily Mail, Edwards says their relationship is in the “very early days” and they are “seeing how things go.”

She also hinted that the two have been on a “few fun dates,” but that’s all that has happened, so far.

“We’ve been on a few fun dates, which is nice. It’s early days but yeah, he’s really lovely,” she coyly said.

Malik could be faced with more trouble in his own relationship with Hadid. The couple have been the face of breakup rumors since June. Readers of Gossip Cop were quick to share their opinion about Edwards’ comments, according to Australian Network News. One reader said that dumping a girl via text message is “really tacky,” while another claimed that she isn’t surprised by Malik’s sneaky move.

“What can you expect from a man who left his band through a Facebook message? Gigi is next,” she wrote.

Ouch!
