Giants cut David Tyree

It is cut down day in the NFL. Bu the end of today every NFL team must be down to the 53 player roster they will use for the coming season. So far that has not been that many surprises beyond the Giants cutting WR David Tyree who made the catch to get the Giants drive going in Super Bowl 42. While Tyree missed most of the 2008 season with an injury it was generally assumed he would make the squad. Really though the Giants are still loaded at wide out.

Even after cutting Tyree the Giants have seven wide outs of their 53 man roster. More than likely they will be looking to deal one or two of them. Currently on the Giants roster are WR’s; Sinorce Moss, Ramses Barden, Hakeem Nicks, Domenik Hixon, Steve Smith, Mario Manningham, and Derek Hagan.

Hixon and Smith hare expected to start and the Giants offense may use a big rotation to keep all their receivers in the game. A more likely reason to keep all these receivers on the roster is that there is a trade in the works. There have been some rumors that the Miami Dolphins may be interested in Moss.

While the loss of Tyree is certainly a shock to Giants fans, we are really talking about a player who is famous for making one play. That is simply not enough to guarantee a job on a NFL team.
