Hurry To Catch Keldeo And Volcanion In ‘Pokemon Omega Ruby’ And ‘Alpha Sapphire’ Events

Pokemon fans can continue celebrating 20 years of the pop culture phenomenon this October with two more special distribution events. Keldeo and Volcanion are both up for grabs, and trainers have to catch each of them using slightly different methods. However, both Pokemon can be captured in Pokemon X, Pokemon Y, Pokemon Omega Ruby, and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire.

Kicking off the month-long celebration is Keldeo, the Colt Pokemon, which can be caught via the Nintendo Network using a Wi-Fi Internet connection. But, trainers are advised to hurry since it can only be caught through October 24.

To catch Keldeo, follow these steps:

1. Go to the Main Menu screen and select the “Mystery Gift” option.

2. Press the “Receive Gift” button.

3. Choose the “Via Internet” option.

4. Get Keldeo and go back to the Main Menu.

5. Visit a Pokemon Center and speak with the Delivery Girl.

Important Notes:

  • Before speaking with the Delivery Girl, make sure you have an open slot in your party to accept Keldeo.
  • Save your game after adding Keldeo to your party.
  • Double check that your 3DS or 2DS is charged, or plug it in using the A/C adapter to make sure it doesn’t lose power during the transfer.

Keldeo arrives at Level 100 with moves that make the most of its Water and Fighting dual-type nature. Its moveset includes Aqua Jet, Bubblebeam, Double Kick, and Leer. Players can train Keldeo to transform into its Resolute Form as well. The official Pokemon website details the history of its forms and shares how to unlock Secret Sword.

“The Mythical Pokemon Keldeo first galloped into Pokemon Black Version and Pokemon White Version in Ordinary Form, and then changed into its majestic Resolute Form after learning the Secret Sword move in Pokemon Black 2 and Pokemon White 2. Now you can get Keldeo via a Nintendo Network event, once again in Ordinary Form in Pokemon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire! Then, seek out the Move Tutor in Mauville City to teach Keldeo its signature Secret Sword move.”

Those who enjoy playing or collecting the Pokemon trading card game may be interested in adding the Pokemon TCG: Mythical Collection — Keldeo collectible 20th anniversary box to their collection as well. The set comes with a unique foil promo Keldeo trading card, and two booster packs of the Pokemon Generations trading card game (TCG) expansion set. A code card for the Pokemon TCG Online game is also included, along with a collectible Keldeo pin.

Players interested in learning the ins and outs of competitive play may also find the new Battle Arena Decks: Rayquaza vs. Keldeo useful as a training kit or set to build upon. It comes with two of the popular Keldeo EX cards featuring its handy “Rush In” ability that can be used to plan sneak attacks, dodge damage, or avoid paying retreat costs.

Collectors can also hunt down two pieces of exclusive Keldeo merchandise at Toys R Us: a limited edition 8-inch ordinary form Keldeo plush and 2-inch action figure.

Catching Volcanion is similar to the process for capturing Keldeo, but first you’ll need to get a free Volcanion card at a participating GameStop location in the U.S. or an EB Games location in Canada. Remember, even though the Volcanion event runs until October 31, the code cards are only available while supplies last. However, the unique download code on each card does not expire until January 31, 2017.

The steps to catch Volcanion, the Mythical Steam Pokemon, are as follows:

1. On the Main Menu screen, choose “Mystery Gift.”

2. Tap “Receive Gift.”

3. Choose the “Via Code” option and connect to the Internet.

4. Enter your one-time use code exactly as printed on the card.

5. Receive Volcanion and exit the Mystery Gift menu.

6. Speak with a Delivery Girl at any Pokémon Center.

Volcanion is another dual-type Pokemon. It is both a Fire and Water-type with a moveset to match. Players get Volcanion at Level 70 with Explosion, Flamethrower, Hydro Pump, and Steam Eruption. Its Water Absorb ability grants it the chance to heal up to a fourth of its health when getting hit by Water-type attacks in battle. To further disrupt opponents, Volcanion comes holding an Assault Vest that boosts its Special Defense stat.

In the months ahead, the anniversary celebration continues with a Genesect event in November and a Meloetta event in December. Are you excited to be able to catch both Keldeo and Volcanion this month? Which is your favorite of the two? Share your Pokemon memories in the comments section below.
