Chris Hemsworth has been offered a nifty $10 million to star in the upcoming action film American Assassin alongside Die Hard veteran Bruce Willis. According to HitFlix, the actor, who is currently filming the sequel to his superhero hit Thor, will reportedly play the lead in the upcoming spy thriller based on the novels by author Vince Flynn. Should he accept the role, Hemsworth could find himself starring in yet another popular franchise.
Deadline reports that American Assassin is the 11th book in the popular spy series. However, since the novel serves as a prequel to how college student Mitch Rapp ultimately becomes one of the world’s best terrorist hunters, it makes for a good jump-off point. Chris Hemsworth will assume the role of Rapp, with Bruce Willis serving as his mentor. If you need instruction on how to take down legions of cinematic terrorists, then your best bet is probably Willis.
American Assassin will be directed by Jeffrey Nachmanoff, the man responsible for lensing Homeland for Showtime and the 2008 thriller Traitor with Don Cheadle. Given the upcoming film’s subject matter, Nachmanoff seems to be the right man for the job. Screenwriter Mike Finch, meanwhile, will rewrite the draft previously penned by Ed Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz.
Should Chris Hemsworth accept the lead role in American Assassin, then he’ll have to find some time to squeeze the film into his extremely busy schedule. Not only is the actor attached to The Avengers 2 and the Snow White and the Huntsman sequel, Hemsworth is also slated to star in the Steven Spielberg science fiction effort Robopocalypse.
Bruce Willis is just as busy as his potential co-star. After A Good Day to Die Hard opens in theaters next February, the actor can be found in Jon M. Chu’s G.I. Joe: Retaliation and Dean Parisot’s Red 2.
Do you think Chris Hemsworth is the right choice to play Mitch Rapp in American Assassin?
