Today Is National Liqueur Day! Here’s 13 Other Boozy Holidays You Need To Know About

There are hundreds of days celebrating dessert, pizza, cheese, etc., on the National Days calendar. So, in honor of today’s national day (National Liqueur Day), here’s a list of boozy “holidays” that are definitely calendar-worthy.

Sunday, Oct. 16: National Liqueur Day

Happy hour is the best way to get the strongest drinks for the cheapest price. Celebrate National Liqueur Day the right way and create your own happy hour with Happy, an app that allows users to create their own 60-minute happy hour at participating bars and restaurants.

Thursday, Oct. 27: National American Beer Day

Try out a new beer, host a keg party, or go to a beer tasting on Oct. 27 in honor of National American Beer Day.

Tuesday, Dec. 20: National Sangria Day

Although sangrias are considered a summer drink, there’s no rule against enjoying this fruit-filled classic in December.

Saturday, Dec. 31: National Champagne Day

According to Piper-Heidsiek CEO Cecile Bonnefond, “A sparkling wine should only be called Champagne if it comes from the region of Champagne, France.”

While Bonnefond may be right – true champagne only comes from France’s Champagne region – a nice bottle of bubbly from California or Italy is still a great way to ring in the New Year.

Wednesday, Feb. 22: National Margarita Day

Be on the lookout for deals at Tony Roma’s, On The Border, and Chevys for major margarita discounts.

Monday, Feb. 27: National Kahlua Day

Kahlua is a coffee-flavored, rum-based Mexican liqueur containing vanilla bean, corn syrup, and sugar. Its sweet flavor makes it extremely versatile, meaning you can add just about anything to it. From a Strawberry Sombrero to an Island Rose Cocktail, Kahlua is the ultimate way to spend a lazy Sunday, or in this case your post-work cocktail hour.

Sunday, March 5: National Absinthe Day

Absinthe, also known as “the green fairy,” was the poison-of-choice among writers and artists in 19th century Europe before it made its way to the states.

In 2007 the U.S. lifted its 100-year-long ban on the drink provided that it is thujone-free.

Tuesday, May 9: National Moscato Day

In 2012, Moscato wine became the third most popular white wine in the U.S.

Thursday, May 25: National Wine Day

National Wine Day is probably one of the best days of the year, aside from National Drink Wine Day, which is celebrated on Feb. 18. You could get creative and whip up a few wine slushies, or you could go to a wine tasting, or better yet, a wine theme park — either way, nothing could possibly go wrong with a little vino in your hand.

Wednesday, June 14: National Bourbon Day

All bourbons are whiskey, but not all whiskeys are bourbon. In order for a whiskey to classify as a bourbon, it must be made in the U.S. and have a mash of at least 51 percent and no more than 79 percent Indian corn.

Monday, June 19: National Martini Day

Traditional martinis are made with gin and vermouth, garnished with an olive or lemon twist. But, there’s nothing stopping you from pulling a Bond and ordering a vodka martini “shaken, not stirred.”

Monday, July 10: National Pina Colada Day

The U.S. has been celebrating National Pina Colada Day since 1978, and we can thank Ramon “Monchito” Marrero for that.

Monday, July 24: National Tequila Day

Tequila is mezcal, but mezcal is not tequila. Mezcal is made from the maguey plant, which is a form of agave. While mezcal can be made using a variety of agave plants, tequila must be made using only blue agave.

Wednesday, Oct. 4: National Vodka Day

Bonus, National Vodka Day and National Taco Day fall on the very same day.
