‘This Is Us’ Bombshell: Mandy Moore Dishes On Her Secret, Talks Aging On Show And Chemistry With Milo Ventimiglia [Spoilers]

NBC’s new hit show This is Us has everybody talking. Just three episodes into its premiere season and This is Us already has fans ecstatic for more. Each storyline keeps captivating viewers with its twists and turns every week. One particular storyline that made everyone’s jaw drop involved Mandy Moore’s character Rebecca. Moore has had her work cut out for her playing a young Rebecca and an aged Rebecca, but she has aced it. TVLine even named Moore as performer of the week. In Episode 3 fans saw Moore drop a bombshell when she went upstairs to meet Randall’s biological father.

Once Moore was upstairs and introduced to William, she asked Randall, played by Sterling K. Brown, to give them a minute alone. It was then that fans learned Rebecca had really known William for years — 36 years to be exact. Rebecca had sought out Randall’s father after he was born and she was having problems bonding with him. At the time, Randall’s name was Kyle, which was what they would have named their deceased baby. Young William had advised Rebecca to give “Kyle” his own name. She chose Randall, which was the name of his biological mother’s favorite poet.

So what does Moore think about this secret she’s been keeping from her family all these years? E! News shared Mandy’s thoughts on the somewhat controversial issue. Mandy shares that she tries to have empathy for Rebecca in the situation she was in. While William asked to see Randall from time to time, Rebecca said no. Moore said Rebecca was simply making a decision that she felt was best for herself and her family at that time. Mandy said, “It certainly has ramifications as the show moves forward. Holding on to a secret like that, I can’t imagine what she must have been going through and what William must have been going through.”

Mandy also shared that she had to imagine how the deal had impacted William and Rebecca because that information had not been scripted yet. Moore shared that Randall is the child she is closest too and the thought of something messing up their relationship is devastating. Moore feels her character had basically felt the secret was buried in the past and then Randall tells her he found his biological father. Fans will have to keep watching to see how Randall takes the news if and when he finds out about Moore’s secret.

This huge secret Moore’s character has been keeping is not the only thing she has had to deal with for her new hit show. This is Us viewers have gotten to watch Mandy impeccably play two different ages. Moore spoke to People about how it felt to see herself aged so many years into the future. Mandy shared that it took many makeup tests to get her age look just right. Mandy said it takes about four hours each time they put the prosthetics on, so she had a lot of time to see herself at various ages. Moore has admittedly wondered if she will look somewhat like Rebecca does in the future. Mandy said, “I’m embracing aging. I’m ready for that to happen in the next 30 years. I’m not scared of it.”

There is one other thing that makes Moore’s character so perfect and so lovable: her chemistry with co-star Milo Ventimiglia. E! News shared that Moore revealed her best on-screen kiss is none other than Milo. Mandy said by the time they were seven episodes into filming, they were very comfortable together. Mandy said it was like, “Oh, we have to make out? OK. He’s just the loveliest and I feel so comfortable with him.” Moore even admitted sometimes a little tongue is involved and required! While they are very comfortable with each other, Mandy did admit it was a tad awkward having to look at his bare backside all day for a scene they filmed for the first episode.

Moore and her cast mates are all amazing and all have good chemistry. There are sure to be more twists, turns, and tears as This is Us goes forward. If you haven’t seen this show yet, you are missing out. This is Us airs Tuesday nights on NBC.
