‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 13: Is Cristina Yang About To Return?

Season 13 of Grey’s Anatomy is well underway without Sandra Oh’s fan favorite character Cristina Yang, but is there still a chance the doctor could make a triumphant return this season?

Grey’s Anatomy fans have flocked to social media to suggest that it’s not too late for Cristina to make a surprise appearance in the ABC series’ coming episodes, hinting that Sandra, who left the show in 2014, could possibly still make her triumphant return.

A number of Twitter fans made it clear that they were still gunning for Cristina to head back to the series on the social media site, with some viewers even suggesting that the current season of the medical drama would be “pointless” if Oh’s character doesn’t find her way back to Grey Sloan Memorial before the big season finale next year.

“If Cristina Yang doesn’t come back to Grey’s, this new season will be pretty much pointless,” @heatherhollaa tweeted out on October 14, while seriously dedicated Grey’s Anatomy fan @greyxsandra wrote of Oh’s character, “If Cristina Yang doesn’t come back before the last episode of Grey’s I will sue [creator] Shonda Rhimes and rip her heart out.”

Other Grey’s Anatomy fans were also quick to slam the show without Oh in the cast, claiming that the newer episodes of the series haven’t been quite right without Cristina.

“[Grey’s Anatomy] hasn’t been the same for me since Cristina left,” Grey’s Anatomy fan @heyisela tweeted of the two seasons that have aired on ABC without Yang and @mjayycee concurred, “All I want is Cristina to come back to Grey’s Anatomy and make my life complete again.”

Rumors that Sandra Oh could make her big return to Grey’s Anatomy as Cristina Yang have long swirled around the actress, but it sounds like it’s not just the show’s loyal fans who are lobbying for Oh to come back to the series.

While fans have been making it clear that they’re ready to see Cristina back for a while now, Oh’s former co-workers also appear to be doing the same.

Sandra’s former on-screen husband Kevin McKidd, who still portrays Cristina’s ex-husband Owen Hunt on Grey’s Anatomy, certainly hinted that he wants to see Sandra back before admitting that a return for Oh actually isn’t completely out of the question in a candid new interview with Digital Spy.

Speaking out about Cristina’s return to Grey’s Anatomy in a recent interview with the site last month, McKidd seriously got Oh fans’ hopes up by admitting that his former on-screen wife “might” return to the ABC medical drama soon.

“I’d love it if she came back,” Kevin admitted of Oh as fans speculated about her potential return to the popular ABC medical series. “I think she might eventually [return] for fun, for maybe a couple of episodes. I don’t think she’d come back for anything long term, but who the hell knows?”

But while Kevin is hinting at a potential return for Cristina, Oh appeared to make it pretty clear that she probably won’t be heading back to Grey’s Anatomy just yet.

Entertainment Tonight Canada recently quizzed the actress on her return as the rumors swirled around the now former Grey’s Anatomy actress, and Oh pretty firmly shut down the rumor mill suggesting that Yang could make a big return to the hospital.

When asked if she would be returning to Grey’s Anatomy as Cristina Yang in the near future, Oh bluntly told Entertainment Tonight Canada back in September, “No, I have no plans to return to Grey’s anytime soon.”

“I’ve gotta tell you those rumors,” Sandra then continued of a possible Grey’s Anatomy return in the interview. “I don’t know who starts them but it really is tough.”
