Walmart Sells ‘I Love Bronies’ T-Shirt, ‘My Little Pony’ Fans Aren’t Impressed

Walmart recently started selling “I Love Bronies” T-shirts in hopes of generating some cash off the popularity of the My Little Pony franchise. Although the idea of peddling shirts to Brony-lovers is certainly intriguing, designers ultimately failed to do a any research when it came time to incorporate an image onto their apparel. Instead of using the version of characters that countless adult males have fallen in love with, the shirt features the colorful animals from the 80s version of the show.

While using the wrong version of the My Little Pony characters may not seem like a very big deal to most, Bronies, on the other hand, aren’t too pleased with the mistake. My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic is drastically different than the original 80s television show, something the T-shirt’s designers probably should have researched beforehand.

The Daily Dot reports that angry and irritated Bronies have taken to the internet to express their displeasure with this attempt to capitalize on the subculture. After all, the last thing you want to do is confuse Generation 1 My Little Pony with Generation 4.

“This is like a “I Love Trekkies” T-shirt with C-3PO and R2-D2 giving each other a high five over the smoldering body of a Cylon,” one Reddit user commented.

Although these “I Love Bronies” shirts may seem like a half-hearted attempt by a national retailer to capitalize on a marketable subculture, a spokesperson for Walmart insists this isn’t the case. “They are very popular and the trend is growing from the new cartoon. We choose the vintage characters since that is what our customers respond to,” the company explained in a statement.

Like it or not, Walmart intends to roll out these “I Love Bronies” shirts with the offending My Little Pony imagery across the country within the coming months. Make sure to avoid any area locations when you’re out and about with your Brony friends.
