Why Robert Pattinson And A Super Blurry Photograph Of A ‘Mystery Female’ Is A Good Thing
Commentary | A super blurry photograph of Robert Pattinson sitting next to an unidentified blonde female in a public place is currently causing mass, virtual havoc.
Released by the Splash News Agency, the snaps were taken without Pattinson or the woman’s permission or knowledge and show the pair smiling and talking.
The pictures emerged after the Cosmopolis star and a group of friends that included Tom Sturridge and girlfriend Sienna Miller — who recently welcomed a new baby daughter, Marlowe — spent time at the Electric Room Bar at Manhattan’s Dream Hotel on Saturday, October 6 after attending an IFC Film Dinner event earlier that evening.
As has become routine whenever outlets report on Pattinson, a multitude of oddly, observant sources have now emerged. The UK’s Daily Mail quotes one source who notes:
“He [Pattinson] had his arm slung around her at one point and they chatted for most of the night.”
“They looked like they were having a great time and the girl was making him laugh a lot.”
Reportedly, the group arrived at the bar around 1:30 am and stayed for a couple of hours. A source — presumably the same one — said:
“There were about five of them but it looked like Robert only had eyes for the girl. They sat really close to each other on the couch.”
Coming so soon after Pattinson was spotted with Afghan actress Azita Ghanizada (‘Syfy’ in the sci-fi TV show Alphas) last month at L.A’s Soho House for Jimmy Kimmel’s Emmy afterparty, speculation about Pattinson’s relationship status is soaring once more.
Among the slew of outlets now putting two and two together and making five, The Daily Mailwrites:
“It seems that Rob isn’t quite ready to forgive Kristen for cheating on him with married father-of-two, Rupert Sanders.”
” ‘Does this mean that despite rumours of a reconciliation with KStew Robsten truly are no longer?’ Entertainmentwisemuses.
” ‘Under the peculiar circumstances of his and Stewart’s reconciliation, it makes us wonder if the couple are really back together, or if it’s part of an elaborate ruse timed to coincide with their press obligations for Breaking Dawn: Part 2,” asksHuffington Post.”
Pictures of Kristen Stewart at a Florence and The Machine gig in L.A with her father and a group of friends on Sunday, October 7 have reignited talk that the actress’ reconciliation with Pattinson is nothing more than a plaster to cover the cracks ahead of the global press tour kicking off later this month.
Us Weekly denies this. The magazine quotes a source who says Pattinson and the female chatted “in a friendly way, nothing more. He kept to himself mostly.” Curiously (given the evident smiles in the pictures) adding, “Rob was in his own world with his friends. He also looked scared of the world. He seemed a bit timid.”
Another Us Weekly source revealed:
“He was hanging out with some friends … chatting with a table of people drinking beers … there were girls and guys there.”
Sounds like a normal night out for any group of young adults. So why is it that, despite Lainey Gossip’s, Us Weekly and People magazine’s assertions that Pattinson and Stewart are “officially a couple again,” many refuse to believe it?
Cynicism is the short answer.
The commercial and logistical value of a Pattinson-Stewart reunion to Summit and Liongsate’s Twilight Saga brand is a no brainer. Add to this the avalanche of PR driven stories that followed July’s revelations about Stewart’s infidelity with Snow White and The Huntsman director, Rupert Sanders, and reasons for doubting the timely reconciliation narrative pretty much write themselves.
Following the release of details for the Breaking Dawn — Part 2 global press tour, many outlets — notably Indiewire — have commented on the separation of the series’ three leads. Towards the end of October, Pattinson will promote in Australia, Stewart in Japan, and Lautner in Brazil.
The reality: Summit is clearly keen to reach numerous territories simultaneously and the cast re-assembles from October 28 to November 3 for a L.A press junket and then right up until the November 16 theater release, facts that are conveniently ignored in order to create a scenario of behind-the-scenes friction.
The Sun claim a source told them Summit is “keeping them [Pattinson and Stewart] apart,” to lessen any “chance of reprisals from fans who were devastated by the split.”
Meanwhile, others surmise the studio is micro-managing the timing of a Pattinson and Stewart photo-op moment, both on and off-screen, in order to maximize the impact of November’s red carpet dates.
And yet, cynicism doesn’t know everything. For every reason why Pattinson and Stewart shouldn’t be together, there is a counter why they would. And, perhaps, to each other, only one actually matters. Whether they’re back together for the sake of expedience or their relationship, only time will tell.
The by-product of an over-documented scandal and the ever-escalating price of fame is that neither Pattinson or Stewart can be pictured with members of the opposite sex without reams of speculative gossip being written. Inadvertently, though, this new furore has accomplished something.
It firmly nails to the wall the idea that Pattinson is some sort of weak sap who can’t function or enjoy himself unless he’s within shouting distance of Stewart. Ironically, as this super blurry photograph clearly shows, nothing could be further from the truth.
