Demi Lovato’s UFC Career Move: Is Her Relationship With Luke Rockhold The Reason?

Demi Lovato is making a big career change. The “Stone Cold” singer has been training at the Unbreakable gym in Los Angeles, which is also home to MMA fighters. Many of the UFC greats fight there, and now Demi has aspirations to become an MMA fighter, as well.

Lovato has shared videos of herself at the gym fighting with Unbreakable Performance Center owner Jay Glazer. TMZ Sports recently asked Glazer if Lovato would ever consider a career change in UFC fighting.

“She’s brought it up to us a million times before, but yeah she’s had that mindset,” he said.

Glazer then added that Lovato is one heck of a fighter. She’s already given him the worst bruise he’s ever had, as evidenced by NFL player Michael Strahan, who assumed Chuck Liddell was the one who gave him the shiner.

“She gave me the worst bruise I’ve had so far. She’d whip a lot of people’s a**es. She throws elbows better than most of the UFC guys that come in. Then she gets mad if we don’t get after her harder. She’s definitely one of our fighters, without a doubt.”

Although jumping into MMA fighting may be a long shot for somebody who doesn’t have a long-standing experience in the industry, Lovato posted a message on Twitter last week, hinting that it’s time for her to pursue new interests in 2017. She revealed to her fans that she’s taking a break from her music career, notes the Bleacher Report.

Lovato has not been quiet this year. She broke up with her longtime boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama. She spoke at the Democratic National Convention about her struggles with mental illness and her bipolar disorder. Then, she embarked on a major world tour with tour mate and friend Nick Jonas. Not to mention, Lovato has been through her share of social media drama with Perez Hilton, Mariah Carey, and Taylor Swift and her girl squad. So, it sounds like Lovato needs a little break from the spotlight, as reported via Shape.

This latest news comes after Demi Lovato is said to be dating UFC star Luke Rockhold just four months after her split from Valderrama. The pop star has since opened up about their split and how she’s moving on these days. Lovato hinted that she has since moved on from their six-year-long relationship.

“I think it’s healthy to be able to start over with someone else. Being sick was always a part of my relationship with him; I always had something wrong with me. I needed to let go of that,” the 24-year-old singer says in Glamour’s November 2016 cover story, as reported via People.

The “Confident” singer said that she constantly leaned on Valderrama for support with her eating disorder, mental illness, and substance abuse for much of their relationship.

“It was hard to depart from somebody who saw everything, but it may be nice to start fresh with somebody. Because that person I was when I was a lot younger is not who I am today.”

According to TMZ Sports, Lovato and Rockhold have been dating quietly for the past few months. It seems like the couple has been getting to know each other since the summer. The two hit it off after they trained together at the Unbreakable gym, where Lovato has been training. Since then, they have been sending each other secret messages via social media, including an Instagram post featuring a smiley face on their pinky fingers.

Rockhold must have taken notice of Lovato’s impressive moves and inspired her to seek a career in UFC. On the other hand, it could have been the fight scenes in “Confident” that inspired her to seek a professional fighting career. It’ll be interesting to see if she will compete in her first-ever amateur MMA fight.
