'The Vampire Diaries' Season 8: New Promo Hints Damon And Enzo At Odds - Teases Damon Salvatore Can't Go Back? [Spoilers]

The Vampire Diaries is coming to an end on The CW network. Fans are wondering what will end up happening to the characters in Season 8, especially Damon and Enzo. A new promo has been released and it shows the two vampires and they seem to be at odds. Also, it is being hinted in that same promo clip that Damon Salvatore may not be able to go back. Is this true or is there still a way to save him?

TVD spoilers are below. If you don't want to know what could happen in the upcoming season, then do not continue reading.

As viewers recall from the Season 7 finale of The Vampire Diaries, Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) was lured deeper into the vault when he heard Elena Gilbert's (Nina Dobrev) voice. However, it was not really her. The unidentified creature simply used the technique to get close enough to affect Damon. Later, Enzo (Michael Malarkey) went into the vault to find him, only to end up affected by the monster as well.

When TVD returns with Season 8, months will have passed by. Damon and Enzo have gone missing, but Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley) has not given up. Unfortunately, there is one person who is losing hope. That individual is Bonnie Bennett, portrayed by Kat Graham. Not only did she lose her magic, but she has lost the two most important men in her life.

So far, two promo clips for The Vampire Diaries Season 8 have been released. The first one fans should already be familiar with. The second was posted by E! Online earlier today. It teases that even though Damon and Enzo are both affected by the creature, they are handling it in different ways. Torturing and killing people is what Damon Salvatore is focused on. Enzo questions Damon about how many dead bodies will satisfy him.

"When does this end? How many dead bodies until you're full?"
It was previously speculated that the creature inside the vault was forcing Damon and Enzo to kill. However, Enzo's question seems to imply that the Salvatore brother may be murdering human beings on his own. This is where things get confusing. Is the villain forcing Damon to kill, is he doing it on his own, or perhaps is it a result of what the creature has taken from the vampire? Another possibility is that Enzo was not addressing Damon, but the monster that is affecting him.
Matt Davis, who plays Alaric on The Vampire Diaries said that the villain knows everyone's deepest, darkest secrets. The actor added that there is no hiding anything from the creature. This is what the monster does - takes each person's secrets and somehow exploits it or uses the information to its advantage.
"What I like about this villain in particular is that everyone has a dark secret and there's something about this villain that just knows what it is. No matter how much you try to hide it, it will pull it out of you. So it can see the evil that you try to hide within yourself and that's what I like about it."
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Julie Plec hinted that Damon and Enzo would perform "gruesome executions" on The Vampire Diaries. The question is why did the villain pick these two vampires? What is Sybil's goal by having Damon and Enzo do these things? Most importantly, can they be saved? In the new promo clip, it is teased that it is the beginning of the end. It is also hinted that there is no turning back. Does this mean that it is the end for Damon Salvatore? Or will he be saved, but will be forced to face the things he has done?
Fans will have to watch The Vampire Diaries Season 8 to find out. New episodes begin airing October 21 on The CW network.
