Selena Gomez’s First Public Sighting: Is She Done With Rehab?

Selena Gomez has made her first public appearance since she announced she was taking a break from making music and touring due to her ongoing battle with Lupus.

The 24-year-old singer was spotted for the first time in five weeks over the weekend by fans and employees at Texas Roadhouse in Tennessee. Gomez looked calm and happy, according to reports by the media and her fans. The “Same Old Love” even stopped and posed for photos with fans on Saturday when she dined out at the restaurant with her family, reported People.

Gomez was dressed in black head-to-toe, including a baseball cap and sneakers. One onlooker revealed to E! News that she looked very happy to be there.

“She enjoyed herself and was there for a late lunch. She couldn’t have been more gracious to everyone and to the fans who was more than happy to take pictures with whoever.”

In some of the below photos and videos, Gomez made silly faces with her fans. When one of the guys tried to sneak a video of the pop star, Gomez made a kissy face to the camera when she noticed them. One of the men looked very happy to be taking the photo with the beautiful brunette singer.

Gomez announced back in August that she was taking a break and postponing her Revival tour to focus on her mental health, which are some of the mental side effects from lupus. She has been reportedly experiencing depression and anxiety from the autoimmune disease, which is the reason why she wanted to lay low and take a break from the spotlight.

“As many of you know, around a year ago I revealed that I have lupus. I’ve discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of lupus, which can present their own challenges,” Gomez revealed in a statement to People. “I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off.”

“Thank you to all my fans for your support. You know how special you are to me, but I need to face this head on to ensure I am doing everything possible to be my best. I know I am not alone by sharing this, I hope others will be encouraged to address their own issues,” she continued.

Sources revealed to Radar Online that Gomez has quietly checked into a rehab facility after stepping away from the spotlight.

“The facility is a women’s only facility in a secluded wooded area,” a source told the outlet. “She’s staying for more than 60 days.”

Another insider assured the outlet back in September that she wasn’t being treated for drug-related problems, but more so for her depression. This recent sighting does not necessarily mean that Gomez is done with rehab. On Oct. 7, the starlet was spotted at an arcade located near the rehab center. Luckily for her, no one even recognized Gomez at the venue, an insider told the outlet.

“You could tell she was hoping to be recognized by someone at the arcade,” the source told Radar, “but not even the worker getting her ice cream knew who she was.”

Sources told Hollywood Life that Gomez has been “writing” new music during her time in rehab. She has been channeling all of her emotions “into something creative,” says one of the sources. Another source told the celebrity gossip blog that Gomez has also been looking into both natural and alternative remedies to help ease the serious symptoms her ongoing battle with lupus.

“She wants to begin ‘chelation therapy,’ which is a method of pulling toxins and metals out of the body. She’s switched to an all organic, grain-free diet, and thoroughly ‘detoxed’ her house. All her soaps, beauty products, and cleaning supplies are natural and organic. She’s also juicing 3 times a day. Her new team of doctors thinks drugs will only cover up the problem, but [these methods] will really help, if not cure [her lupus]!”

In her 2015 cover story with Billboard, Gomez revealed that she had undergone chemotherapy to treat the illness, which was a battle within itself. She became weak, nauseous, and lost her hair as a result. Following the news of Gomez’s first public sighting, fans got the hashtag #SelenaIsBackParty trending on Twitter. But only time will tell if the singer is ready to make a comeback.
