Olivia Newton-John Has Accepted Her Ex-Partner’s Death, But Admits That She ‘Still Wonders’

Olivia Newton-John has confessed that she still wonders about what might have happened to her missing ex-partner Patrick McDermott, according to the Sydney Morning Herald. The 68-year-old Grease actress insists that she hasn’t forgotten McDermott.

Olivia Newton-John rarely talks about McDermott, who went missing 11 years ago during a fishing trip. And the Grease actress, who turned 68-years-old last month, has opened up about the disappearance of her ex-partner during her interview with 60 Minutes‘ Karl Stefanovic.

When the host asked Olivia Newton-John if she still wonders about McDermott’s 2005 disappearance, the four-time Grammy Award winner revealed that she had to “accept and let go.”

“Of course, I mean it’s human to wonder, but you know. Those are the things in life you have to accept and let go.”

Olivia Newton-John added that although she “lives on,” questions about the disappearance of her former partner still come up because that’s “human.” In 2005, the coast guard in San Pedro, California, declared that McDermott had “most likely drowned.”

However, there have been multiple reports suggesting that Olivia Newton-John’s ex-partner could have staged his own death and is now hiding in Mexico under a new identity. The actress and McDermott had dated for nine years before his mysterious disappearance in 2005.

Olivia Newton-John admits that it was “very hard” for her to come to terms with McDermott’s death even though “nobody really knows what happened.”

But earlier this year, new details about Olivia Newton-John’s ex-partner’s disappearance came up when private investigator Philip Klein told Woman’s Day that McDermott was still alive. Klein claims that McDermott, who would now be 59-years-old, is living and working in the Mexican village of Sayulita.

“Patrick’s probably now working in the yachting industry for a high-profile family down there.”

Olivia Newton-John, who is best known for her role of Sandy Olsson in 1978’s Grease co-starring John Travolta, has never publicly reacted to Klein’s claims.

John Nazarian, who was the first private investigator to work on the case in 2005, added in his interview with Woman’s Day that McDermott now allegedly lives with a German girl. Nazarian also insisted that he doesn’t believe in the theory that Olivia Newton-John’s ex-partner fell off the boat.

“To come up with the conclusion that he fell off the boat, and allegedly no one saw him fall off the boat, is the most preposterous thing I’ve ever heard in my life.”

Interestingly, at the time of his allegedly staged death, Olivia Newton-John’s former beau had debts of approximately $40,000, including $10,000 in child support for his son, Chance, from his marriage with Yvette Nipar.

In other news, Olivia Newton-John still cannot forget her iconic skin-tight black pants from Grease, according to the Herald Sun. And Grease fans can’t seem to forget them either!

In a video promoting Newton-John’s Cancer Wellness and Research Centre in Melbourne, as well as her Gaia Retreat and Spa in Byron Bay, Olivia Newton-John admitted that she hoped to auction the skin-tight black pants off to raise money for her own hospital.

Olivia Newton-John also added that those pants changed her life and joked that her Grease co-star John Travolta was “quite happy” to see her wearing those skin-tight pants. During the interview, the actress also revealed details about her 30-year-old daughter Chloe Lattanzi’s struggles with eating disorders.

In her controversial interview with Woman’s Day in 2013, Olivia Newton-John’s daughter admitted she had been “using most days and nights.”

“And not only was I doing coke, I was drinking vodka heavily also. I had to combine the two.”

Lattanzi explained that it’s “hard” to be the child of “a person in the limelight.”

“There’s privilege, but there’s also other things that come along with that.”
