Drake has had to postpone his Summer Sixteen tour dates in Toronto, Philadelphia, and Newark, New Jersey. The rapper said that he is following doctor’s orders to rest his ankle after suffering an injury.
Drake wrote on his OVO blog to let his fans know that he would have to postpone some of his show dates for his Summer Sixteen dates.
“I am crushed to even be typing this announcement because I feel like I am letting my fans in these cities down.
“I hate to be told I can’t do something, but under doctor’s orders to allow me time to recuperate, I am being forced to postpone the intense three shows in a row in cities which have only ever shown me unconditional support.”
Drake has already performed more than 50 shows on his Summer Sixteen tour. The rapper promised his fans that he would be back to performing by the second concert date at Newark’s MetLife Stadium.
“We are over 50 shows in and I have done everything to power through my recent ankle injury and leave it all out there on the stage every night.”
Drake promised that he would return to his tour with new music and a stronger ankle.
“I am crushed to even be typing this announcement because I feel like I am letting my fans in these cities down. I only want to give you the best show you deserve, I promise – I will make it up to you. Thank you for your understanding and I can’t wait to see you all again with new music and a stronger ankle.”
Drake wore a ‘Drake University’ varsity jacket as he left Iowa on his private plane Wednesday morning. Drake’s performance happened to be at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.
Unfortunately for Toronto, Philadelphia, and Newark, they would have to wait until a later date to see the “Controlla” rapper perform.
“Toronto (my hometown) and Philadelphia (a city that was one of the loudest and showed so much love) are two of the intense three in a row show cycle that will be postponed. I was asked to postpone both Newark shows, but I have yet to perform there and so we compromised at one.”
Drake had originally planned on performing in Toronto October 8 and 9 and October 15 and 16 in Newark with Philadelphia show times in between.
This is not the first time that Drake has altered the Summer Sixteen tour. People was told that back in June, Drake cancelled all VIP packages just before the tour kicked off.

The VIP packages had sold for up to $1,000 and some packages included photo opportunities with Drake. Drake’s people were citing “scheduling issues” and fans were receiving refunds.
According to Daily Mail, Drake was seen on video at his concert Wednesday in Chicago running around during his performance.
The 29-year-old rapper did not appear to have an injury at the time; it was just hours earlier that he had posted the postponement memo on his blog.
Drake hit some other bumps along the road during his Summer Sixteen tour when a thief ransacked one of Drake’s tour buses while he was performing and made out with over $3 million in jewelry.
The jewelry actually belonged to Drake’s tour DJ, Future The Prince.
