Huawei Mate 9: Release Date, Specs Compared To Huawei P9

Huawei’s Mate 9 is the latest installment to the smartphone series, and recent leaks give us a good idea of what to expect, the release date, and specs.

The Huawei Mate 9 release date is expected this year. Multiple sources suggest that an event on November 3 in Munich will be the release date or at least the Huawei Mate 9 launch date.

Recent leaks of the phone show that the Huawei Mate 9 will look a lot like its predecessor. The Mate 8 design was met with glowing reviews, but its software will be more like the Huawei P9.

According to Pocket Lint, the camera design will be much different from the P9:

“The dual camera system will sit near the top, with the two lenses sitting vertically, rather than side-by-side horizontally like the P9 and P9 Plus. On either side of the camera system, there’s a dual LED flash and a laser sensor for autofocusing, while the round fingerprint scanner sits underneath.”

The Weibo leaks also suggest that the Mate 9 will come in multiple colors or different shades of the popular gold color such as Amber Gold, Ceramic White, Amber Grey, Rose Gold, Moonlight Silver, Sky Grey, Mocha Gold, Champagne Gold, and Enamel Gloss Black.

The screen will be large and will take up most of the front end of the phone, with the fingerprint scanner at the bottom. The power and volume buttons are on the right, according to the leaked images, and this is consistent with other Huawei phones.

Huawei Mate 9 Specs

Huawei’s P9 and P9 Plus are the best phones you can get from the manufacturer. However, the Mate 9 is expected to be much better.

Mate 9 is expected to be the first phone from Huawei to feature the Kirin 960 chipset. The processor is rumored to use four Cortex-A73 cores along with four Cortex-A53 cores, according to Digital Trends.

One of the most talked about features of the Mate 9 is the camera. Digital Trends reports on the rumored camera:

“The camera will also be a highly powerful one, according to the rumor. In fact, it will boast two massive 20-megapixel sensors. It’s unknown why there will be two sensors and if one of the sensors will be monochrome, as was the case in the dual-sensor in the Huawei P9. The most recent leak from Weibo also suggests that the Mate 9 will have Leica branding, as the camera company’s logo can be seen between the dual lenses. Reports suggest the camera will boast an aperture of f/2.0.”

The P9 has a Dual 12 MP camera and the HiSilicon Kirin 955 processor. The Mate 9 is expected to sport a hardware and software upgrade over the P9.

It is important to remember that leaks could be an earlier version and significant upgrades to the design of the phone could happen between the leaks and the official release date.

The Mate 8 is a great phone, and early reports suggest that the Mate 9 is going to be looking to impress. The highlights of the phone so far are the big screen and powerful camera.

Huawei has been criticized for its EMUI interface on its previous phones. Therefore, software will be a big part of the Mate 9 release event.

The Huawei Mate 9 is expected to be released with the new Android 7.0 Nougat operating system. Some other specs to expect include 6GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, as well as longer battery life.

It seems like the Mate 9 will launch around the same time we can expect the Pixel phone and the LG V20. There are a lot of good options when it comes to Android phones.
