Sonja Morgan’s Net Worth In Trouble After Failing Tipsy Girl: Bethenny Frankel To Blame?

Sonja Morgan has been working on launching her Tipsy Girl business for a while, but it sounds like she’s run into a few hurdles over the past couple of months. On The Real Housewives of New York, Sonja revealed that she was launching her own Prosecco line. This came as a huge shock to many of her co-stars, as she hadn’t really talked about it before, but for Morgan, this was just the beginning of her large empire. A Tipsy Girl restaurant was to follow, and she began working with Ramona Singer’s former business partner.

According to a new Page Six report, Sonja Morgan’s restaurant may be in trouble long before the doors have even opened. Morgan is having a difficult time getting a liquor license for the establishment, as the State Liquor Authority denied the liquor license back in February. This has put a damper on the entire thing. In addition, the board may have rejected the liquor license due to the simple fact that Sonja Morgan is on The Real Housewives of New York.

The board was supposedly turned off by the fact “that [the] ‘Tipsy Girl’ brand was a plot line on the reality TV show the ‘Real House Wives of New York’ [sic], on which [Morgan] appears as a cast member and that the location was in fact intended to be a destination location that would be promoted through a buried plotline on the reality television show.”

Apparently, fame can’t buy you success. However, the interesting catch in this story is that Bethenny Frankel is now being blamed for Sonja Morgan not getting the liquor license. On The Real Housewives of New York, Morgan was told by Bethenny that the liquor board takes alcohol consumption very seriously, and they may not like the whole “tipsy girl” concept. And it sounds like she was right, as Morgan is facing an uphill battle. What is a restaurant without alcohol, especially with Morgan’s name on it?

“She has done everything to try to trip them up,” said an insider in regards to Bethenny’s involvement in the trademark scandal.

However, the source stumbles when asked about the liquor license issue, saying simply “I don’t know” when asked if Frankel was involved.

Frankel was clearly very hurt by Sonja Morgan’s business decision to create a brand called Tipsy Girl, as it was so similar to Skinnygirl. When she learned about Morgan’s idea, she decided to sit her down and tell her that she wanted nothing to do with her. She felt that Sonja was trying to sabotage her success.

“The Sonja situation was just kind of sad. Obviously, her idea can’t touch my brand. There is no product or distribution. It is a made-for-television idea, and I have over 20 varieties of wine, vodka and ready to drink. You can’t find a city of the Housewives where several women haven’t followed in my footsteps and attempted booze. Bring it on. The more the merrier. It is a brutal business, and it may look easy, but as you see, it isn’t,” Bethenny Frankel has revealed in regards to her issue with Sonja Morgan on The Real Housewives of New York, according to Bravo.

On the show, Frankel accused Sonja Morgan of trying to get a piece of her success, even though Sonja claims she was just trying to do something awesome for her after her bankruptcy case.

“This was just an unoriginal name and idea, and it gives a false impression to the audience–that you just go on tv, and poof a brand is born. That isn’t how it works. As for Sonja, well…I have no anger towards Sonja, but I do have sympathy. I hope she can find her truth somewhere in the process. Ideas and names are a dime a dozen. Execution, drive, dedication and passion push it through,” Frankel added on her Bravo blog.
